I've been very happy with my ego batteries, protank and carto tank, but I'm always thinking about expanding my vapor. I've been watching a lot of videos about mechanicals and think it would be cool to try. Going that route is turning vaping into a hobby, but I think mechanicals are so cool.

I understand that the mod will fire and put out the voltage depending on the battery used. I also see people using different type of batteries, I guess choosing a battery is considered along with the resistance of a coil or coils so you don't damage the battery or worse, hurt yourself. I haven't read too much but from my understanding there are different batteries that can handle different levels of power, and a freshly charged battery puts out too much.

I don't think I'm ready to get a mech yet, but in the future it would be fun to try. I want to ask on recommendations on a set up. Ever since I've been reading about mechs I see a lot of people that use mod clones and atty clones. Since there is no circuitry, is a clone really much different? I saw some mechs on fasttech for as low as $12 and dripping attys for as low as $7. Are these decent to give mechs a shot?

thanks.

In my opinion, yes. They're worth it to give it a shot. All I have right now are mechanical clones, a couple RDA clones and a couple of the lower end real ones. You'll still need a good charger, good batteries (with cases!!!), the same wick, wire, mesh, etc. that you would use on a real (not cloned) mechanical or RDA.
If you want to get into it very, very slowly, start to rebuild your Protank heads and your evod heads. Watch whatever you can about micro-coils, read the threads and practice and get a kit together bit by bit.
One of these days I'll splurge on a real mechanical but not yet.

You are quite right, mechs are cool. Just do your homework before venturing there. You can use a Protank on a mech, I've done it, and it gets you very nice vapor... for a little while, but I found that I would go through 1.8 ohm coils willy nilly. So I started rebuilding them, and soon had a collection of 24 coils, which I spent a lot of time rebuilding, until I got tired of it.

Then it was RBA time. Mechs are really made for RBA's. You can use other attys on them, but at the end of the day you will end up with an RBA, just because it works a lot better and you don't end up wasting a lot of time messing around with attys that were not really made for a mech. I jumped over the whole carto tank thing, and I'm glad I did.

I spent enough on EGO rigs and wish I could have just cut to the chase and gotten into mechs and RBA's to start with, but realistically, there's a certain inevitability that you are going to spend a bunch of money before you arrive there. It's just part of the journey. So do your homework on batteries, Ohms law, and safe vaping. I heartily recommend PBusardo's videos on YouTube. Take your time and don't rush into anything before you know what you are doing :)
