This is really getting on my last NERVE.........

In my last two atomizer orders I have ran into a weird problem with some of them. After I use an atomizer for about 3-4 hrs of heavy vaping I get this weird taste like the cartridge filler is burning or something. I have experienced this whether I am using a cartridge with the blue foam filler, the white fiber filler, or even NO FILLER and just dripping. It is a disgusting taste and I cannot use the atomizer once it starts. I have tried soaking them in hot water, flooding the atomizer and letting the juice work through it ect ect. The last 10 atomizers I have bought this has happend to 7 of them. I am in desperate need of some help to fix this because I cannot afford to be spending $25 on a 5 pack of atomizers for 2 days use. (might as well smoke if i'm spending that kinda money)

So, has anyone else experienced this? And if so, how do I fix it. I have about 10-12 atomizers with this problem. They work great just have the bad "burning" taste to them.


p.s. It is not the filler burning either, i have replaced the blue foam with a new one and the filler is fine.

What pv/atty combo are you using? Have you tried dry burning them?

I'm using the riva 510 with the standard 510 atty's. I have tried dry burns and it doesn't seem to help. It's weird because it's happening when they are still pretty darn new. Not weeks of abuse or not cleaning them regularly.

They are probably to dry. I actually had that happening on my riva too. I just wasn't keeping them wet enough. Try adding an extra drop or two to one that has the burnt flavor and see if it helps.

Are you cleaning the attys out before you use them? They has some sort of oily primer in them.

Take your burnt tasting atty's and soak them in white vinegar with a touch of lemon juice. Soak overnight. Rinse in hot water, and let dry. Take some plain unflavored VG, add 3 drops to atty's and vape it off. This will remove that nasty taste you're having and any of the leftover flavors that may still be in them. It will also remove the burnt taste.

Carts often do not work well. Also, thicker juices don't wick well either. Clean them as above, then research dripping. If you don't have the issue while dripping (even if just doing it as a test) then it is a wicking issue and the cart was too dry, or juice to thick to wick.

Yes and no. The atty is still very good for dripping maybe even better. For using with a cart it just takes a little longer to wick. Using a high PG juice it works pretty good. Better than than it would in the trash can.

this would be my guess as well. i always dewick my attys when i get them. i dont use carts though i only use attys for dripping. i use cartos or tanks if i dont want to drip.

I don't know if this is wierd or not, but I just went home for lunch after reading all of these good ideas and I do not see any wicks under the bridge of my attys?? I took a toothpick, bent thin paperclip and got them all the way under the bridge and nothing came out. I didn't even feel anything under there??? Now i'm really confused!!!

Ok gang. There may be an exception or two, but as a general rule.... WICKS DON'T BURN. It's the gunk on the wick that burns.

Now, if you don't want to clean them, or can't get the burnt taste out, go ahead and de-wick it if you want to use it for dripping. I've been dripping for a year and never even bother to de-wick. The idea is not to burn it in the 1st place, or clean it if it is burnt. See post #6 from hairball, clean the atty, and solve the wicking issue. Maybe thin the juice.

That happened to my 1 of my first 2 attys. It was unusable and tasted burned. I pulled out the wick with tweezers and it was white but had black scorch marks on one part.

I could only drip with that atty there after but it lasted for 3 more months of use The burned taste was 100% gone once the wick was out of it.

The problem is we don't know with certainty what the various manufacturers are using for wicking. If they are using silica it shouldn't burn but ingredients in the juice can. Once that happens, it's very hard to clean and just a simple blow out isn't going to get the job done. If deep cleaning doesn't help, taking out the wick may be all that's left.

The wicking fibers are not "what makes the wicking happen" per se. The mesh covering the bridge, together with them is. And while with many liquids, set up and/or vaping habits may be useful or necessary; some other times they would be more of a counter-productive feature. For the most part, if you are using carts the fibers will help; but, if you drip/ dip they may be a pain leading to inconsistency issues.
They do not burn per se; the blackness is residue that deposits on them. An alcohol bath and/ or dry burn may help... A lot. Keeping your atty wet may avoid the burnt taste, in the first place...

Learning how to avoid "burning" them, together with a good cleaning method of choice are essentials to a decent vaping experience, and a vaper's "best friend"...
