This bit makes me laugh:

So are e-cigarettes safe?

"The simple answer is we don't know," says Dr Vivienne Nathanson from the British Medical Association (BMA).

"It's going to take some time before we do know because we need to see them in use and study very carefully what the effects of e-cigarettes are."

Where have they been hiding in a Igloo, they have been out for sometime now so surely they know quite a bit about them now.

It depends on whether they are interested in protecting people's health or the profits of big pharma, I bet I know which one they would chose!

I got this pet project of mine which consist of approaching my DG and talk to him about e-cigs;

You see,I work in a hospital for people that had serious accidents or have serious diseases.
Most of them are pinned to their beds for weeks if not months on end.
I have no idea what is the % of smokers in there, but I bet they are very much represented (a lot have limbs amputated due to smoking and eating crap all their lives, yet are found outside--when they can--smoking).

I am pretty sure that a good part have fits due to nic withdrawals and whatnots and was wondering if in special cases, the hospital could provide them with e-cigs to appease them.

Just a tought...like I said,pet project.

I think that there would be a lot of value in that. I notice the same thing in Winnipeg even at -40C!
If they experience the same beneficial health improvements that we have found, it could help to heal them faster.

I went through chemo a couple of years back, following pneumonia, bone marrow biopsies, and diagnosis of leukemia - and vaped through every part of every procedure in two different hospitals in England and Wales. NEVER had a medical professional turn their nose up. Not once!

It can, and should, be done, Martin. I wish you every success with your project. :)

The patients are going to LOVE you! :)

Cheers,

Katherine

All the lookalike stuff I see on shop counters have a 18+ warning on them also the boxes my liquid comes in.

This is quite a recent BBC news item and from my limited knowledge on the subject I know far more then they do. Quite a positive report but very poorly researched.

18+ warnings along with child proof bottles have been the norm from at least when I started vapin over two months ago. I gather that wasn't the case as my local shop informed me they had to update products to include this but I can't say when this happened. Maybe another UK vaper can fill you in on this.

YOU CAN NOT BAN/REGULATE E-CIGS ON THE ONE HAND AND CONTINUE TO SELL TOBACCO ON THE OTHER.

Anyway, obviously the following must not be considered to represent the opinion of any sane person, and certainly not that of this forum.

Disclaimer done, here, just for fun, is my letter to my MP which I feel addresses the real issues IMO

Dear Mr. Vaz,

I write with fantastic news - I am no longer a smoker! Thanks to electronic cigarettes I now enjoy a smoke free life.

Sadly, your lot appear to want to change the law so that we e-smokers cannot purchase the necessary nicotine to refill our devices.

You appear to claim that this is regulation for the purposes of safety, when of course it is obvious to anyone with half an eye that you have noticed a reduction in revenues raised by tobacco levies and you frankly need the money for shiny new bombs (I see you want a new trident, are you mad?) with which to threaten and or subjugate Other Nations Who Possess Oil (I see also that you wanted the Iraq war, so that answers my previous question).

I expect that you will probably not bother to reply to me, or indeed give a hoot about the health of nicotine addicts, just as long as you get your mitts on those shiny new bombs.

So, I'd best not waste any more of your time with my protestations surrounding the absurdity of requiring a ban on products containing more than 2mg nicotine/ml when 10mg/ml can already be readily obtained from the shelf in Boots*; nor the potential adverse effects on the health of millions that your ban will precipitate; and let you get on with your palpably vital warmongering.

Yours,

Not expecting anything I do in our 'democracy' to make a blind bit of difference as ever or as usual,

(name omitted for legal reasons)

*Of course this is licensed to you and your vested-interested-share-holding-buddies, my bad.

Well, the Queen is on my money too!
I think it's excellent that we write our politicians and also correct poorly reported views on vaping. The reports can largely be countered with scientific fact...which is what I like to pile on in the comments section. Bury them with science I say.
Since they have nothing that would indicate e cigs are not healthy, they choose to say there is just not enough study done. In fact preliminary research shows that e cigs are effective when treating those suffering from psychiatric disorders. As a population they tend to smoke more and switching to something less harmful will likely prove to be the way to go. Also, if they cared to just poll ECF they would find that tens of thousands of die hards have successfully made the switch with no incidence.

"Attempts to classify e-cigarettes as a medicinal product have been made in Holland and Germany but the industry successfully overturned the decisions in court."

They were also overturned in US court.
Canada is just waiting...as we do for everyone else to come to a decision and then join the side that has the majority!

As for the children...again when nothing else can be used they will ask "what about the children"?
I am a mom and I am concerned about the children. I am concerned that here kids can get synthetic image.jpgnot meant for human consumption and smoke it anyway. Also unregulated, it IS deadly. People have gone psychotic and killed themselves.
No one to date has been charged for driving under the influence of Nicotine.
There do need to be regulations and here in North America we are self regulating in that we don't sell to minors and don't encourage non smokers to start! Why, because we know what it's like to be addicted.....and we do have morals.

IMO I just don't see how something can be regulated in the US as tobacco and as a medical/pharma elsewhere. I can't think of a single other product that would do that.

Say hi to Her Majesty for me!
