let me play devil's advocate here, jules! i know all you wanted was a place to vent and that's fine because we all deserve to be listened to, but
when you give something to somebody then it is really out of your hands what they will do with it. yes, it would be nice if things were returned when they are not wanted or needed but once you give that should be the end of it.
and don't forget, just because we were lucky or motivated enough to make vaping work for us, it will not do the same thing necessarily for everybody else.
i remember very well all the methods i tried, chantix, hypnosis, welbutrin, patch, gum, and cold turkey. all without success and , yet, plenty of people were able to stop smoking with those.
so, go easy on your inlaws, maybe a hint that those items could be of use to somebody will get them returned

I see what you are saying, but they are the ones that came to me and asked me to give them these things knowing that income is limited. Fine, if you don't like it and don't want to use them then give them to the person you bummed them from. Had it been a gift that would be different but this wasn't like gift in the traditional sense. It was a I want to try that can you let me try it. So with what you're saying, if they asked me to borrow $50 bucks to buy cigs I should give it to them and never expect to be paid back? I really see this as the same as borrowing money. "Hey, that's cool, I would like to try it. Can you set me up and let me see if I like it?" I should also have said in the beginning that both people offered to buy the supplies if they liked it, but so far neither one has made any attempt at it at paying or returning the stuff.
