I want to share vaping with all of my friends who smoke, but at the same time, I have a hard time trusting that they'll do the research needed to either A: use the products carefully, and/or B: understand the patience needed to give this method a chance to replace cigarettes.

so I'm sort of at a crossroads, 'cause I know it's usually just my lack of trust no matter what the situation. like, even if someone wanted to play me in a video game, I feel I need to explain every little detail 'cause I don't trust their ability to know what I know. my brain works that way across the board in most scenarios.

so has anyone else had this thought when telling friends or co-workers?

I'm guessing no...'cause my brain is fantastically ......ed. seriously though...

It's not just you. I know a few smokers I would love to get using ecigs but I know they don't have the patience to fuss around with unreliable supplies, ordering from all over the world, customs issues, etc.

Until it goes a bit more mainstream and the current government issues are resolved, I've decided not to bother pushing it.

yeah, that's a good point. I just want anyone who's tried all of the other methods to give this a chance. but I'll probably just pick and choose for the time being.

perhaps I could conduct a test first, like, "Say, Larry, I saw some Jordan's on sale for $25 on a Chinese website. You are interested? Perhaps we should talk over a vaporizer."

I've gotten to the point of loaning stuff out for trial runs. Only to close family and friends of course and only those I really want to switch. Hands on instruction, 24/7 tech support and purchasing assistance if they decide they want their own. Anyone else, I just do demos, hand out business cards with suppliers and forum info and make recommendations. I always stress these can be unreliable and fiddley but want everyone to have the opportunity.

There are some I go into it knowing it's a bit too much for them, but they're family, so I've resigned myself to being their middleman and have enlisted help from other family members to try and ensure someone will always be available to help take care of some of the fiddling.

I do loaners also. If it's somebody I work with I bring them one to use for the day with a fresh battery and carts in a flavor they'll like; no e liquid at first since maintanence can put people off and I'm trying to get them "hooked" before they realize the habit will take some effort.

I've also given some close friends kits (901s), but am so far disappointed with the results. Conversation goes something like "Hey, how are you liking that e cig?" Answer- "Honestly, I haven't really tried it yet, I'm just so busy...."

??? Come again? You pick it up and inhale. Grrrr.

Most of them don't want to be bothered with research, I send a links to this forum and again, they just don't have time.

These are people that all want to quit, have tried to quit numerous times, which takes effort, so I can't understand why they seem unwilling to put in a little work for this.

It's frustrating, especially when it's people you care about. But what can you do? If people aren't willing to help themselves there's not much you can do. I'm hoping that once they notice that I never pick up an analog again (been 4 days now, 1st time in 30 odd years I've gone this long) it will make more of an impression, especially since beforehand I had never tried to quit or even mentioned any desire to quit.

Loogie,

I want to scream it from the rooftops! LOL

Realistically, I've no plans to push it. When they see me smoke my 401, I field questions and then direct them here. No one held me by the hand when I was researching. I wanted a change bad enough to put in the work involved. They'll have to want that for themselves as well.

Pooch smooches~

some people can't or won't be bothered. it's up to them.
i'm not a converter, but i'll answer questions.
i think i'd be rich if i got kickbacks on referals, seriously.

i'm hesistant lately because people can and do invest a great deal of money on our little hobby. what if they pull the plug tomorrow?

I've recommended it to a few people, and will continue to. The real plus here is being able to say they sell them in Boots (that's the biggest... I guess Americans would say "drugstore" in the UK.) Then I tell them not to bother with Boots (because they're overpriced and there are better models available), but to order on the Net, and direct them to some of the online sellers :)

There's no doubt it's lent considerable respectability to ecigs over here - without the Boots mandate people just think it sounds dodgy. But hey, Unilever distribute them, so they must be ok :)

I have quite a lot of people who ask questions and I always point them here if possible. The issue I have is I know quite a few older smokers who do not understand the technology nor do they want to fiddle with things. The first time an atomizer went out, they'd be off to get a pack of analogs. It's not for everyone and for those of us who have friends we'd like to have try e-cigs, everyones story is different. I've even thought of having some cheap cards printed with all of the pertinant information for people who ask me.
