Purchased a KGO about a month ago and I have been using it every day. Every few days I've been cleaning the threads with q-tips and isopropyl yet there seems to be this black gunk or burnt metal forming on the threads that is causing my cartomizers and atomizers to not screw in as easily. What is the best way to treat and/or prevent this from happening?

After doing some more research it seems to be implied that using noalox on the base that your atomizer and cartomizers thread into will cause shorting, which is the threading that I specifically want to protect, so what's the point?
I don't know about causing 'shorting', Noalax doesn't conduct.

I am having a hard time understanding your problem as I've never had "black gunk or burnt metal forming on the threads", and I seldom even bother to clean the connector.

I would just try a very minute amount of house oil.

Noalox will help by lubricating the threads. It is commonly used on e-cig thread. You will need a very small amount applied with a Q-tip if you like. Put it on the threads only and then wipe with a paper towel. Apply on the threads inside the cone as well. You can pick up a tube of it at Home Depot in the electrical department for a few bucks. I used it on my tube mods and my REO. NOALOX is short for
NO ALuminum OXidation.

Use tissue paper to buff the threads, inside and out. Kind of jam it in/on so it really works into the threads.

The mildly abrasive action of the paper will polish light oxidation, and the tissue will absorb the "black" (really a very dark green on brass/"gold" connectors) goo.

THEN use some noalox if you wish. I just clean when the threads look dirty.
