Three days in and loving it!

Hi Guys,

Just decided to make the jump after I tried a disposable and realized that I smoked half a pack of analogs in the two days the disposable lasted. I did a lot of research and decided to start out with the Halo G6 starter kit and got a mini-tank and a 7ml of longhorn to try and got the Turkish Tobacco in the cartomizers that came with the kit. So far I'm finding that I like the mini tank more than the carts because I seem to be able to taste it more, but I'm also starting to get vapor's tongue as I've read since I liked the longhorn so much I was over gaping a little bit.

I've been smoking for almost 35 years and I'll admit that I'm still smoking a few cigs a day, but that's way better than a pack a day. I can also see why people are using the bigger tanks and batteries now. While the G6 is good if I'm out and in the car, when I'm sitting at home I like to vape a little more and the batteries are running out too fast for me. I assume I'll calm down a bit as time goes or I'll just move up to the bigger battery and tank.

Looking forward to hearing your advice on juices and equipment. I'll take any suggestions you've got.

Eric

I'm here, when I'm here
Here's something that could help battery wise - Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0 Iclear 30 V2 VV/VW
I have one and love it! Battery lasts me 2+ days on a full charge. Good luck on getting off the "few cigs a day". I did the analogs for 40+ years. Started vaping and haven't looked back.

Happy Vaping!! :vapor:

Hi and welcome! :)

The MVP mentioned ^^ thats going to be the best bang for your buck in the realm of battery life, performance and ease of use. Its the only thing around that I still pick up sometimes with 2 Reos around. Really a great device.

A good thing to do is poke around in the APV section of the forum and see what owners have to say about their devices:)

Good luck!

You beat me to it, Simply Red. I'm also a member of the MVP 2 Fan Club. Great little device at a very reasonable price!

To the OP - Welcome and so happy you decided to go on this great adventure of vaping. Stick with it and you will be amazed! I still am, after two months of no smoking. I never thought I would quit after 40 years of heavy smoking. This did the trick for me, and I'm delighted with it. Plus, I'm actually having fun NOT SMOKING. Who would have thought?

Hi Eric - Welcome Aboard

I went the Blu - G6 - Triton - Provari route, like so many others.

Don't assume you will "calm down". You might, but if you're like most of us, you'll just start getting more and better gear.

Use the information found all over ECF to learn about what else is out there. Ask questions and acquire only what you think will work for YOU. Don't just get stuff because you think you need it. Get it because it makes sense to you.

When you have researched what's out there, weighed the pros and cons, and read about what everybody else says, the time will come when you're poised to make the decision of buying cheap but usable vs buying high and for long term. Just remember: Buy once Cry once. I have a bunch of stuff I bought that is now collecting dust because I didn't listen to my own advice.

Top Coil, Bottom Coil, Dripping, RBA, RDA, Mechanical, Variable Voltage, Variable Wattage, Cotton Wick, Genesis, DNA etc, etc. Enough to make your head spin (it did mine). You will eventually "get it" with help from the peeps here.

Good Luck.

I was thinking more like vaping a bit more like I was smoking. Right now I seem to want to do it all the time, but I run down those little batteries twice a day. Maybe once I get over the vapor's tongue I can do it more often when I can taste it more.

I've seen a lot of people talk about the Innokin stuff. My local store was pushing the eGo with a Kanger tank for $29.95 which I've heard a lot about, but I can't tell you the model number so it could be bottom of the line stuff. That's part of the reason I came here and part of the reason I started with the Halo G6.

My local store is also pushing Lush e-juice. Any thoughts for me after trying the Halo? It's 40/60 compared to whatever the Halo is which sounds like it is kind of high PG, but I don't know what A high PG level is.

Thanks!
Eric

Your battery life with an eGo type battery will depend on a lot of things. A general rule of thumb is 1 hour per 100mah of capacity. Figure a 650mah for about 5-6 hrs, 1100mah for about 10 hrs, etc.. If battery life is real important to you, consider a mod that uses replaceables, like AW 18350 (700mah), 18490 (1100mah), 18650(2000mah). You can carry an extra battery and change it in seconds without needing to hook up your battery to a charger.

The MVP is a good PV with a good battery life, but needs to be charged as it has an internal, non-removeable battery. That's OK if it suits your needs. There are all kinds of gear out there. Decide your budget, and overall preference (box style vs tube style, replaceable batteries vs non-replaceable) and it might narrow your into a specific set of possibles.

Innokin gear seems pretty good from what I've read, but I don't have any.

As for juice - there's nothing more subjective than that  I've read rave reviews about specific vendors' juices, tried them and wanted to puke. Others that many peeps hate, I love. You're on your own there. The most important thing is to make sure the juices you use are clean and not unhealthy. Use vendors known for cleanliness, and purity. You're putting that stuff into your lungs.

Some of the most respected juice vendors out there seem to be Halo, Velvet Cloud, Mt. Baker, Alice in Vapeland, Nicoticket, Alien Vision, and a slew of others. VaporRenu and Velvet cloud are my go-to's. If you're sure your local shop is being diligent about using pure bases, is accurately mixing, and pays attention to cleanliness - ok. If you're at all concerned about that - use the go-to vendors everybody else is using.

I like as much VG as I can get. That's me. I would look for juice vendors that let you determine the blend, i.e. Mt. Baker or VaporRenu as examples. A 50/50 blend is a good spot to start with. You can adjust from there as you find what you like best. The problem with Halo juices is you don't know what that blend is, so you either like it or you don't. I prefer to choose my own, like the nic levels.

PG is a dessicant (eliminates/reduces) water. If you feel dehydrated or start getting sores, it's probably too dry and reducing the PG can help (with drinking water). VG is a vapor producer, but PG will carry the flavor better. At least that's what "they" say. Personally, I find all VG to be great on flavor and it's a less dry experience for me. You need to find your own sweet spot.

Thanks for the rule of thumb on mah's. That makes sense now since my 78mm batts are 280mahs I believe so getting three hours is about right.

I was wondering if the PG was a desiccant which explains why some of my friends are using 20/80 blends since they've been doing it for awhile. I'll see how the 40/60 blend I got is [hopefully the flavor won't suck for me] and then I'll try some 50/50 blends until I find what's right. I've seen people talk about VaporRune and Velvet Cloud along with Virgin Vapors so I'll have to try those juices as well.

Definitely just realized that I'm going to need to play with the liquids for a bit. Bought a tobacco juice from Lush that was recommended by my local shop, but it tastes like hazelnut. Not bad, but definitely not tobacco. The 40/60 blend has a loss of throat hit, but at least I can taste it longer and don't feel the drying feeling I was getting with the Halo...Oh well, there goes the money I was saving on analogs.

I've spent the money saved not smoking+ since I got back into vaping. It's certainly not a bad thing. Part of the journey is finding the right setup for you. And that's gonna take some money. But itsa fun!!! :vapor:

Virgin IS another good one. I sampled a couple of their juices and I fell in love with one of them: Peanut Butter Banana. That could end up being my ADV.

There is a site that lets you buy 1ml samples of the Virgin and Velvet juices for like a buck each. I just received an order that has a total of 16 flavors from those 2 vendors. It might be work checking out. That way you don't buy a tank worth of e-liquid you find you don't like. In that case you've only spent a buck and wasted 1ml. That site is eLiquidSamples.com. I'm sure they will start adding other vendors if it takes off. It seems pretty new.

Good Luck.

Welcome to ECF & congrats! You've got a little bit ahead of you, but stick with it and it gets pretty good!

Tobacco's commonly take a fair bit of time to steep. They can sometimes taste pretty gnarly or not much like tobacco at all, but give it 2-6 weeks and many of them can take you for a real ride. If you're looking for a tobacco, I definitely recommend sampling around some of the reputable and popular vendors here...I recommend finding a tobacco style that you like (honey, pipe, aromatics, etc.) and then you can really start exploring with more concise options. Start with small samples, there's a good chance you'll find you strongly prefer some vendors over others...but no one vendor is universally amazing for everyone, unfortunately.

Good suggestions on the extra kit, the MVP is a decent mod. There's other ways to go too, but eventually you'll get the hang of it and maybe even you'll have a few devices in the end. (After all, you'll have a considerable budget left from quitting smokes!) I settled on mods that use the 18650 battery and like the option to replace the battery.

Again, congrats on cutting down and welcome to ECF!

Awesome! I just placed an order. Steeping is new to me and I started to do it with the Longhorn I got, but it didn't seem to need it. I've got the top off the Lush tobacco now and it's in a section of my new "vaping closet" that I've cleaned a shelf off for. Now I guess I should looks for some steeping techniques. This bottle had been sitting in the case unopened for several weeks already, but I suppose opening it up and letting it breathe might help it.

I just discovered vaping, too. I think it's a nice hobby. Although I have never smoked regular cigarettes, I enjoy all the different tastes with 0 nicotine. I use it at night instead of snacking, and it seems to be working. I also love the smell of the e-liquids. I only wish all cigarette smokers would start using electronic cigarettes, and I think that, in time, they will. The tobacco industry will attempt to impede the popularity at all costs, but I think they will ultimately suffer great losses. Here's hoping, anyway.

Welcome man, glad to hear you're slowly weening your habit. I too had the same problem with my Ego batteries. I like a person's post up there, because he recommended the iTaste MVP 2. It's also what I use and it's simply amazing. The price is awesome, you get a puff counter if you're into that sort of thing, an ohm reader, variable volt and watts. Can't get enough of it. It also has a 510 and ego style threading.

I've had chapped lips for the past couple of weeks, and until now I hadn't associated it with my vaping. I use Halo juices too, so that may very well explain it. Halo won't publish their PG/VG ratio - they say it's a trade secret. But I'll bet it's PG-heavy based on what I've experienced so far.

Oh, and welcome to ECF!

As a "newbie" with around 40+ days I must say it's been a little more expensive than I first anticipated. One discovers that there are more methods than one to vaping, and you fancy to try it all! and impatiently order the different equipment. Not to forget e-liquids; that has it's expenses too, but this you can always stock in a dark cupboard. And I enjoy my new interest and hobby so very much!
