Three rba's arrived today, an AGA-T+ from Discount Vapers and a Phoenix and DID clone from VaporBreak. Which of the three is the best choice as a first build?

Well, it depends on your preference, really. They each have their own quirks and little tricks to their respective builds...

If you start with the DiD clone or the Tiamat, I would very carefully take one of them apart and clean it out- because you not only want a clean tank when you fill it, you want to see how they go together and come apart. BE VERY CAREFUL with the order in which you take them apart...the positive nuts and center post need to be removed first before unscrewing the rest of the units!

If you want to jump straight into a mock-up of a genesis build by practicing on the phoenix (which is how I first started out), check out this blog post:

Ninja Vapes: The Phoenix, and the Genesis/Dripping Hybrid RBA Setup

Have fun!

I started RBA's with the Phoenix and it is definitely the easiest for building coils. It's versatile as you can use silica, cotton, or a stainless steel wick. Once you get your coils right on the Phoenix, then move on to the did clone or Aga-T. Once you get the stainless steel wick running on a genesis atomizer, you won't go back. They've totally changed how I vape.

IMO, start w/ the Chid. Yeah, it's kinda tight to work in, but you won't have to fight hot top legs like on the AGA. Most important is a well oxidized wick, followed by snug (but not overly tight) coil wraps. The rest is patience nudging out any hotspots your coils may have.

p.s. Don't put any juice in your RBA of choice until you have the coils glowing evenly.

Good luck! And if you get frustrated, walk away and come back later.

Hot top coil in the AGA-T? I have four of them and I don't get those...odd

On the taller of my two posts the wire hole is lower than the other post. How can I make the top positive lead from the coil be higher than the negative lead if the hole is lower on the positive post.
I am confused here and am obviously a noob in need of direction.

It doesn't matter. Just hook one end of the coil to one leg and the other end to the other leg and you should be good to go.

We have liftoff!
It measures 2.5Ω with Kanthal 32
I used 25mmx40mm of 400 SS mesh and then snipped a little bit of the length off.
It touches the bottom of the cup. At first It was shorting out so I re-oxidized the wick and finally achieved success.

I had a bit of a hot spot as shown in this video, I wiggled the wick a bit and now it vapes beautifully.

Thanks a ton for your help! :toast:
Tomorrow, I'll have a go at setting up the AGA-T+.
From what I have read the AGA-T+ has a smaller wick hole size than the original AGA-T. I wonder why?
It looks to me that for the DiD I will need to sand the bottom of the cap to make the airhole align better. It's not too far off so I think that a very light sanding will align it as needed. Should I get a coarse sandpaper or a fine sandpaper for this job? Maybe both, start coarse then end fine?
