The lower you go in nicotine the better it will be :) BUT, with that said.. it can also be a number of things... the amount of PG in it can have a drying effect, some flavors are harder on the throat.. ect...

Have you tried other e-liquid from different vendors to see if there is a difference?

I started at 20 mg with various vendors... some burned the throat, some didn't. I am now on 10 mg from one vendor. Try to find those that have sample sizes or free samples for first time orders and experiment.

And, drink LOTS of fluids!!!!!!! Vaping will dry you out :)

MrsDash nailed it, but I will add that there are some juices that have a stronger throat hit than others. I have a peach juice that will knock me out of my seat with the throat hit if I'm not careful.

Voltage, nicotine level and the PG amount all affect throat hit. So if you're vaping 36mg on a 6V battery with a high amount of PG you're going to get one hell of a throat hit. Take a look at these factors in addition to the juice and adjust them accordingly.

Some atty's deliver a harsher (hotter?) hit than others. I find my Joye 510 has a pretty harsh throat hit compared to my Super Mini or my 901. I find some models deliver a smoother and cooler throat hit (Super Mini) and others like the 901 seem to sit right in the middle while delivering crazy vapor. All on the same nic juice. Try a different model, you will get wildly different results on the same niquid.

In addition to the already noted causes of harsh throat hit, I've also noticed that vaping right after consuming certain foods and drinks can be kind of harsh for a short time. Drinks and foods that are very cold, some dairy products and stuff that is citrus-y or acidic seem to be the major culprits for me.

I agree with this- if you get juice from a variety of different vendors, same strength, you will still have a variety of different responses or reactions to them, as MrsDash says... I was a relatively light smoker, and ordered 24mg from madvapes.com because I figured that because i'd been smoking for 9 years, full flavored Marlboro Reds, I could handle 24mg juice. Boy was I wrong.

I can tolerate this juice, but even one hit a day causes headaches and makes me feel high.

I have some disposables I ordered that I am waiting for in the mail which will hold me over until I get my new juice (which I bumped down to 6mg).

I would advise trying sample packs from a vendor, you can choose the strength of each individual one- and see which strengths work for you.

But again, different vendors make their juices differently, so you will react to them differently- it's all about finding the vendor, juice, and strength that works for you.

Good luck

From my experience it could be one of 2 things (or both):
1. Bad reaction to PG (maybe you have some mild allergy to it)
2. 36mg is too high for you.

Try to vape a VG based liquid 36mg an see how it goes first. If not just drop the nicotine to 24mg and that should do the trick. Fruity flavors? I have some :p

Let us know how it went. Good luck!

I *think* that's unlikely. See this post. But I'm no scientist.
"The dry coil is capable of far exceeding the stated decomposition temp of VG"
Just a week ago I had issues with an atomizer that gave me throat burns similar to acid reflux. Few coil loops were too close to each other causing local overheat. I've noticed that even wet coil is red on one side. Replaced it with another atomizer, and burns are gone.
