Throat Gunk

I guess this is a good place to ask my question. I got a vaporizer and have been using it for two weeks with much success. The last time I tried to quit (6 months ago) I used an e-cigarette which caused me to have a ton of gunk in my throat, which I could not clear. When I bought my vaporizer the seller talked to me about the difference between vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol; stating that the e-cigarette I was using was all PG. The "juice" I have been using from the store is a mixture of the two but my friend makes his own "juice" and uses solely PG. My question is: am I going to have the same throat gunk if I use his all PG juice? (I have not had the problem with the PG/VG mixture.) The juice he makes himself is significantly cheaper but I don't want the gunk in my throat; I'm trying to get all that junk out. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

In my experience it seems to be just something that happens once in a while. It seems to form while sleeping, at least that's when I've noticed it, after waking up. I never really pegged it to PG or VG, but I did'nt really look for a cause, just assumed it was probably from not swallowing while asleep. I generally vape 70PG/30VG liquid.

Good Question, Ive been steady vaping for the past 3 weeks, and over the past week I've been getting the same Gunk!!! Pretty much the same as when I was on analogs hopefully it goes away as I continually vape. I believe I read somewhere that when the throat gunk comes, that's the lungs cleaning themselves. Dont qoute me on that @ All!!!

My niece is a geriatric nurse. She told me that after 50 years of smoking, I will never lose the cough. I also have post nasal drip so mornings are a gunk fest for me.

I'm not sure about that. I had terrible post nasal drip and it was strictly from smoking. I could quit smoking for even 5 days in the past and it would start to go away. I smoked 30 years and used prescription nasal sprays for it. I have been vaping almost 3 years and haven't had post nasal drip since about 2 months after quitting smoking. Haven't needed any more meds for it either. And I no longer have that gutteral cough of phlegm I used to get everytime I got done eating. That was so embarrassing to deal with. I realize you smoked for 50 years, but I do think it's possible for those symptoms to go away if you completely quit smoking of any kind. At least it should get better.

As far as the OP's gunk in the throat concerns...I have heard some complain they get that when they use high VG juices due to the glycerin content. I use very high VG juices and don't have a problem. High PG, on the other hand, gives me chapped lips and even a chapped and sore nose. I can't use high PG. But everyone is different. It's also highly likely, as someone else stated, that the phlegm from smoking is still breaking up in your chest and coming out. I know some say they got actually sicker with a bad cough and lots of phlegm coming out when they first quit smoking. Maybe try a 50/50 juice until you see how you feel after awhile.

I once quit smoking for over a month. during the second week into not smoking, I developed an extreme cough.. it was bad enough that I went to my doctor and he explained that what was happening, should be happening. Cigarettes suppress coughing and smoking causes buildup in the lungs. When you quit smoking, the cough suppression effect fades and here comes the coughing.

My doctor suggested a sauna and I did that over several days. I coughed up a pizza, then the coughing passed. I felt better than I had in a long time. Then work got stressful again, and I reached for a smoke again, and went right back into my 2 pack a day habit. Was nice while it lasted.

I smoked for over 40 years and my cough went away a few weeks after I stared vaping.
