I've never really paid much attention to the term "throat hit" because I didn't really care to understand what it meant...actually I had never eve heard of the term when I smoked. It wasn't until I started using the e-cig, until I first heard about it.

So since I've been vaping, I've only been vaping 0MG juice (no nic.)

I recently started experimenting with nicotine in my juice (because I still have craving issues almost 1.5 years into being smoke free.) So I talked with my doctors about it and they were fine with it. So I'm a bit confused as to what is going on here...

A bottle of 12MG caramel...when I took a drag on it I immediately gagged and pulled away from the device (all within about a second.) I assume this is "throat hit?" If so it's not very fun lol. I have tried lower dose juice (for instance I tried a 4MG a few weeks ago and I couldn't even tell the difference between it and 0MG juice.)

So am I safe to assume that one gets a throat hit from the nicotine and NOT the flavor of the juice? Maybe I ought to try 6MG or 8MG? The 12 was harsh man...I know you are probably laughing but it kicked my throat's ...!

One thing I noticed was that I could taste the nicotine...it reminded me when I briefly used the nicotrol inhaler system when I first quit. For those that don't know, it's a tiny plastic mouthpiece and you pop in nicotine cartridges (one at a time of course) and each cartridge lasts for 20 minutes or 24 hours (which ever comes first-after the seal has been broken on the cartridge of course.) But I remember going back over a year ago and I the nicotine taste that I got from this juice (after the hit wore off a bit) was the same taste I remembered from the inhaler system...was pretty interesting.

So if the nic is what gives the throat hit, I can't imagine how some of you are vaping 36MG? OMG...if I tried that it would probably knock me out.

TH is a combination of wattage (heat applied to the coil(s)), nicotine and ingredients of the juice (apparently some will use alcohol and this can add to TH).

If your looking for less, you can try changing up those variables. Less nicotine, a higher resistance atomizer/cartomizer will lower the wattage, or a more basic/pure juice or a combination of these.

For me, it's the ratio of PG/VG and the nicotine amount. My favourite is 70/30 (PG/VG) and 18mg. I use a V.V. mod, so I like to have it set at 4.5 V with a 2.5 ohm atty (for my favourite juice. Each juice has it's own voltage "sweet spot"). Any higher than 4.7 and the juice taste burnt to me, but other love that taste.

I'd recommend getting a V.V. mod, especially the Lavatube (L-rider). That way you can test yourself (at a fair price) what voltage you like. And you can adjust that voltage for any juice or atty combination you have.

is there a trick to avoiding juice burn with high wattages (9+)? i cant seem to prevent it.

I'd say try a higher resistance atty. This is just a guess though. I don't have much experience calculating wattage. I'm waiting for the right time to buy my Darwin. Until then, voltage is the only thing I need to worry about.

If you wanted some TH, you could probably try a menthol or a cinnamon flavor. You won't get TH per say but more of a sensation. I'd love to be where you are but still do need the nicotine. At least I'm not smoking, so I'm happy.

Or, order one e-liquid with nicotine and one without and mix until you get the sensation you need. I've done that to lower the nic level a bit. Even if they don't offer it on the site, some suppliers will do that for you if you ask.

Yea that is true, menthol does kick the throat, unfortuntely it doesn't help with my ill feelings I start feeling half way through my day (or night.) I just tried some 6MG caramel and it seems to be not as harsh. I've tried the cinnamon's...that stuff is POTENT...and I can't take it lol. I was disappointed cause I love fireball candy, but the stuff is just so strong...

Honestly don't fret the nicotine thing, you are nto smoking and that's what really matters. Most docs will tell you they are not concerned with you using nic alone.

Yeah nicotine is a big part of the TH. Depending on the juice, PG/VG ratio, and what you're used to, a strong TH can really throw you for a loop. Try this, inhale into the mouth, wait a few seconds, then shotgun it into your lungs. It's much less harsh, and much more pleasant this way.

But then again, you may not like TH, some people don't. I am not one of those people lol.

well any stimulant isnt doing your heart any favors, but i think youve gotta be a serious juice head to do some damage.*

*this is based on absolutely nothing (besides my own thoughts) :D

That is why I don't drink coffee and vape (at least caffeinated coffee). I recently heard of some vendor selling nic juice infused with caffeine.:facepalm:

yeah im not a huge coffee person but i do enjoy the occasional cup of toasted almond from dunkin donuts. its the 555 of coffees. :D

the caffiene infused eliquid is a trip. at first i couldnt have imagined it working, but there is a product out there that blasts a gaseous caffiene burst into your lungs. so maybe its possible. one product is called AeroShot AEROSHOT Energy
and another is called Buzzaire ThinkGeek :: Buzzaire - Metered Dose Caffeine Inhaler
there are some funny youtubes with folks using aeroshot...
