I'm using a Joye 510-T, and 18mg, PG, coffee flavored juice. I'm a pack-a-day analog smoker, that's why I went with the 18mg juice. My throat kinda hurts after half a day of using the PV. I can't sit down and vape for 3-5 minutes like I can with an analog, because my throat gets dry and I start to feel funny. This is really confusing, because everywhere I've read says the nicotine from PVs aren't as strong as they are for analogs, right? Does the type of juice have anything to do with it, like maybe I should switch to VG instead? Do other people who vape have these problems, and if so, what nicotine level do they chose? Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to go back to analogs for the next few days (because it doesn't hurt to smoke real cigarettes, how ironic is that?). I just ordered supplies to make my own juice, but the only stuff I currently have on hand is the 18mg PG stuff:(

VG is supposed to have a lot less throat hit, so that's definitely a good place to start. You could try cutting your coffee-flavored juice with VG and see if that helps, and if not switch to pure VG and another flavor (maybe even unflavored to start with?). A slightly lower level of nicotine, say 10-12mg, might help until you know what your body likes.

Oh, and make sure to drink a lot of water, because PG can really dry out your throat over the day!

I've got the same problem. Only I'm using 12mg. I ordered a bunch of different stuff. A flavor bottle, 12mg @ 100% PG (this one kills me, I can't take it) and another 12mg with a 70/30. The 70/30 still has a bit of TH, but more tolerable to me. The 100%PG I can't vape unless I cut it. Oh well, live and learn.

Only talking analogue experience here as thats all I got for now. I thought my e cig from LF was finally here today but it ended up being a bottle of Shiraz from Melbourne I wanted to try before going a case! How disappointing... I was wondering how big this gadget was when the package weighed 1.5kg! I presume Royal Mail has been under the pump trying to get all the mail out for the royal wedding hence the length of time to get airmail from UK to Australia.

Anyway you get a lot more throat hit from smokes if you drag direct from the cigerette into your lungs. You cut this feeling in your throat down significantly by first taking smoke into your mouth and then inhaling into lungs when cooler. The longer you leave the smoke (in the case of traditional smokes) in your mouth before inhaling into lungs the less throat hit you get.

I imagine the same principles apply to ecigs? I think I even read it here somewhere that this is the case.

Definitely try inhaling to the mouth first and then to the lungs, it feels much better. Also, it does feel different when you first start, but after a few days it's not irritating at all. You probably need to drink water after every couple of hits at first, PG is very drying. (I use a 70% PG 30% VG mix)

To me there is a difference between TH and throat irritation. If I direct hit to my lungs I get an irritated throat. I need a good TH for me to continue vaping. TH is much better than irritation

Go get some Glycerin in the drug dept of Walmart (that brand is vegetable) or buy Wilton Vegetable Glycerin in Michael's Crafts near the cake decorating stuff. And get an empty dropper bottle. Then mix 3 parts of your juice with 1 part VG and try that for now. It's better than smoking cigs.

My tongue and throat got very sore with 18mg in PG. Nicotine is a skin irritant. PG does very little to buffer it.

You don't have to go to full VG - get a blend. You are in the US so you have more choices than PG or VG. Buy US juice.

I like 70pg/30vg. You could also try 50/50. You could try another coffee eliquid. Coffee is a strong TH-ey flavor

You could also try some 10-12mg juice.

One coffee many seem to like is Maiden Coffee at Gourmet Vapor. There is also a Kona Cream I've heard a lot about but I am not sure who carries the Kona juices.

A Friend of mine was very sensitive to PG she kept stepping down the PG in her mix until she found 30PG/70VG to be comfortable.

The more VG in your mix the less flavor you get so if you find that you have to use a high VG ratio try ordering juices from places that will add extra flavor to high VG blends like freedomsmokeusa you have to pay a little more for extra flavor but its worth it for a good vape.

Cut your PG down... try blends like 70/30, 60/40, and 50/50 pg/vg. Also, some juice flavorings have simulated throat hit which can be hard on your throat (menthol, cinnamon, etc). One last suggestion, be sure to drink plenty of non-caffeinated liquid while vaping... it really does dry you out! This will probably help quite a bit with your situation.

PG is a humectant which means it draws water from your body, including your throat.
Drinking more water is very much recommended when vaping.

PG is a skin irritant, and can cause irritation to the upper respiratory tract, including you throat.
So the answer to that part of the equation is using more VG and less PG in your juices.

Katie,

I think you need to add some VG to your mix. VG is much better and smoother to vape. PG is harsh to me.
You can buy all vg liquids in the future and see if this helps. I know it will. Until then. Walmart sells Vegetable Glycerin in the skin care area. You can add this right to your bottle. It will dilute the Nic content and flavor of your existing juice. coffee flavor can be harsh in a PG mix. Try cutting your mix with vg and see what happens.

I saw a youtube video of a guy using VG he bought from Walmart and I was going to ask about that, but didn't 'cause I didn't want to sound like an idiot, lol. I'll go there tonight and pick some up. I'm still learning all this stuff. I'm trying to find ways to vape as cheaply as possible, and that's why I ordered the DIY stuff. After watching the youtube video I started kicking myself, buying the VG from Walmart would have been a lot cheaper  Oh well, live and learn. I ordered VG, 48mg nicotine, dropper bottles, pipettes, and a large assortment of flavors to experiment with. The DIY video thread on this forum was very informative :)

Don't be afraid to ask questions Katie, vaping is a new experience unlike anything most people have ever done before. There are lots of things that you don't naturally understand or grasp right away. we have all been through that stage, and most of us came here and asked questions. The best way to learn is to ask those with experience. You are putting things into your body that haven't before in ways you haven't before, its better to ask questions than to experiment with something that could affect your health.
