Current gear:

V4L XL manual batteries
V4L CoolCart Blank Cartomizers
Halo 12mg CoolMist & Menthol Ice

I am considering trying something different for the following reasons:

Need longer battery life
Battery terminals stay filthy and are difficult/impossible to clean
I want more warm vapor
batteries cost too much and differ in quality by color
Cartos require refilling too frequently
Lately every time I remove a battery from a charger, I have to pull the contact out with a needle. Otherwise, the cartos and battery terminal do not make contact.

My current solution does have some pros. For example, I like being able to take multiple long drags back to back to back. Plus this combo has assisted in having quit analogs for 1.5 years.

Fat batts look interesting but I do not like the idea of puchasing replacement proprietary batteries. I am looking for something that will allow me to use less expensive batteries and will last all day. I'd also prefer a solution that allows for thorough cleaning of the battery connections and a charger that does not get filthy. I guess I'm probably talking about a mod that uses actual batteries. Something that seperates the battery from the e-liquid. This way I can charge batteries with a plain jane battery charger that won't get dirty. I'd also prefer the contact point of the cartos, where liquid is going to leak, to attach to something that can be easily disassembled and cleaned. It needs to be durable enough to survive drops, etc.

Whatever I end up liking, I will need redundant batteries, chargers, mods, etc. to guarantee I do not become "without".

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I can give you two options. One look at the ego. This is a really good pv They have several different battery options. I am a heavy vaporer and the 650 batteries will last me anywhere from six to eight hours and the 1100 batteries will last about twelve hours before a recharge. Now you can use them with atty's or carto's or you can go with the tank option. Considering what i have read from your post you would probably be better off going with the tank version. The batteries are easy to clean by the way All I use is a q-tip. You can find the kits at a lot of different vendors and you won't have to wrry about trying to match up colors. I get them from either Good Prophets or Cignot. both are good vendors. Now if you are set on a mod then I can give you two good vendors to check out one that is not mentioned much is Ace of Vapes Really nice company to deal with and if you have an issue the owner will get right back with you. The other vendor who sells good mods is reosmods he has a wonderful product I have the reo mini and absolutely love it. You may have to wait on one though. He sells them as quick as he gets them on his website.

I suggest one of the following:

Icon V1.1- takes one 14500 battery. All mechanical and can be completely disassembled. I own one and it's small enough to conceal in your hand and hits like a powerhouse.

Prodigy V3.1 - takes one 17670 battery. On a full battery charge, it lasts me a good 10-12 hours heavy use. I own 4 of them if that's any indication of how well they work. All mechanical and can be completely disassembled.

The only downfall to both units are acquiring the right size batteries. Pretty much, you have to buy them from puresmoker.com but they are reasonably priced.

Seems like an eGo mod with:

1) User-repaceable batteries
2) 1.6Ω dual coil cartos compatible
3) had a sealed connector to prevent juice from entering the battery compartment
4) variable voltage to allow for compatibility with various carts/cartos
5) multiple sources for replacement parts

would be ideal

:)

I'm not asking for much

;)

Look into a 5v GLV-2 from Great Lakes Vapor. Everything you asked for in your original post except VV however, the 5v GLV-2 "self regulates" wattage output for consistent performance regardless of the carto/atty ohm rating.

Virtually indestructible and carries a lifetime warranty whether it's brand new or pre-owned.

Here, watch this video.

I have the 14650, and after watching this, you probably will too, for several very good reasons. :)

The 18650 just came out. If I had a choice, I might prefer the 18650, but the 14650 I think is the perfect middle of the road PV, and the advantages over the Ego in my eyes make it a no-brainer.

GREAT PV unit, battery replacements are like $5.00 done.

Pop a dual coil carto on the 14650, you will have no complaints and a most enjoyable vaping experience. I think he has a video on the dual coil cartos too.

Additional note: I will add is that I thought the charger was pretty cheap, I bought a Trustfire Multifunctional 2-batt charger for I think $11.00 from MadVapes, much nicer charger and I can use it for other batteries too.

One More Additional Note: SmokeTech is working on a variable voltage switch for these, and the switch unscrews from the rest of the unit in like 10 seconds, so when they come out, you theoretically should be able to unscrew your switch, and screw on a brand new variable voltage switch in it's place.

Pretty cool.

A slight word of warning -- I tried many different models/voltages because they were available, and I always went back to my 808D-1s (which is what I think V4Ls are) after a day or two. Then, when I had to replace my PT, I had to get a 5V model (I couldn't find a single vendor that had the battery-in-line type in stock). A little more than a week later, I started getting mouth sores. A little experimenting showed it was from vaping 50/50 PG/VG at 5V. A lower percentage of PG was fine, and even pure PG at 3.7V was fine -- it's the combination of high PG and 5V that tears my mouth apart.

I've since learned some others have similar problems when vaping PG.

I sincerely hope it doesn't happen to you, but I'd caution you to switch over to a different voltage gradually. It'd be a shame if you bought a couple hundred dollars worth of equipment you can't use.

Would you be willing to tell which colors from which companies last longer?

I like KR808d-1s just fine, and have to paint mine with nail polish lots of the time anyway, because some of the colors are not the best shade for brunettes, especially ones with attitudinous undertones.

Case in point: A colleague gave me some stuff from vapor 4 life and mentioned a "gold passthrough," but it was really a sort of metallic toasty copper color that I strongly suspect was chosen by a redhead, with whose hair and against whose skin tone I know it will look absolutely beautiful, but mine had to be re-gilded immediately with Orly Luxe (shade 40294).

Please forgive me for intruding on your thread this way, to ask you a question when I'm totally unable to offer you any advice about what you're asking!

But it's not going to beat a 5v mod let alone a variable volt mod

I completely agree with that, my main PV IS a VV up to 6V Box Mod and I would highly recommend any unit along those lines...just seemed they were aiming at a big batt, which the 14650 or 18650 is an excellent choice, but nothing really beats a good VV mod. :)

I have purchased green and blue XLs from V4L that did not have as much power as the black one's. V4L XL black batts have been in use for almost 18 months. I suspect any 808 battery is going to be difficult to keep clean. It is only lately that my entire fleet of black batteries have required adjustments to make contact with V4L coolcartomizers. I could have had 1 bad cart that pushed them in a little and caused the problem. But now they all require the adjustment every time I take them off of any of my 3 chargers. And the idea of replacing 4 batteries and 3 chargers is no small expense.

When I started looking into mods I had two things that I wanted. I wanted a PV that I could take to work and not worry about having enough cartomizers and juice to last me all day. I wanted to be able to be confident that my batteries would not run out several times a day.
I looked at the VV mods and saw that my juice problem would not be solved. Why would I want to have some huge battery and a cart to keep filling? Sure they are really sharp, precision made and big, but unless they have a juice bottle hanging off the side, they would not work for me.
I saw different tank systems, but they seemed to have problems of their own. When the battery would not hold a charge you had to replace half the PV.
The REO seemed the perfect choice. I looked at the other box mods that are out there also. But I was sold on the REO because it was mechanical, sturdy, and got good reviews all around. It also seemed to be well crafted with top of the line materials. The Grand and Mini are made of aircraft grade aluminum.
I bought my first a Grand in the classifieds.
Now 5 months later I have just purchased my 6th REO.
Yes, they are that good!!

I want to thank everyone for the feedback. I ordered an E-Power from MadVapes in the form of a switch and body for $24. I didn't want the tobacco flavored cartos or other extras. Instead I wanted to try the 1300 mAh 14650s and a dual charger. I also ordered a few dual coil mega cartos and a pack of 2.0 Boge cartos. Add in a couple of 808-510 adapters for the V4L passthroughs and I am set. I may try one of the more expensive mods at a later time, but I wanted to keep the cost down on my 1st venture into mod-world. Rumor is a 5v switch is right around the corner for the E-Power and maybe even a VV switch. Add in some Halo Menthol Ice, CoolMist and Malibu Menthol and I should be set for a while.
