Hi all,

Well my Innokin Coolfire IV TC100 has decided to leave this mortal world at only 8 weeks old! Could get it repaired (think it's the chipset) but Id never trust it again and to be fair, it was quite rubbish!

So I've decided on a new mod.

I already use a smok TFV8 Baby (Love it) so have considered going for the smok Alien Kit (Get another V8 Baby as a spare). Anyone have any experience with this mod? Worth going for?

Realise I'll need two lithium ion batteries, which is something I've never needed before, always had mods with built-in batteries. Considering the Samsung 30Qs, prefer a brand name to be honest. Again, any experience from anyone? Battery life is important and also the ability to charge the batteries through the mod (I'm on the road alot so charge in car).

Be running around 55W - 65W depending on which coil I'm using.

Budget wise... Around the price for the Alien (£60 in UK) and batteries around £15. Tight budget as Mrs not happy I spent £70 on the Innokin and dead after 8 weeks!

Thanks for any advice guys and girls.

I'd be ......, too! You expect to get more than 2 months out of a mod that expensive. One way to look at it... at least you didn't waste that money on cigarettes, right?

Can't help ya on the mod choice. Batteries...the Samsung 30Q are a great choice for both amp and mah capacity. You can also consider the LG HG2 3000mah 20A, AW 3000mah 20A, and Sony VTC6 3000mah.

By the way, most external box chargers have car adaptors included. I feel pretty safe saying that most of us prefer charging our batteries in an external charger rather than using an onboard charger in the mod.

Thanks for the link to the battery test thread! That's great! The VTC6 sound perfect but are a tad over budget, I'll never push these batteries to their limits so think the Samsung 30Q should do the job (£9 for 2 on Fogstar, bargain!), Ill save that thread though for if I do fancy a change.

I'm not happy about the Innokin TC100, but not a lot I can do, 2 months is shocking though, apparently it's a common issue with this mod. I'm back on my stone age MVP20 with my old Nautilus at minute...

It would be handy problem is I can drive up to 4 different vehicles a day from Ferraris to Buses, never guaranteed having right connector, easier to just carry a micro USB lead, don't want to be lugging it about when Im on public transport. Thanks though for letting me know about them.

No warranty? If under a 90 day warranty, you could get it replaced.

I gave my original MVP to my sister when she began vaping a year ago. She uses it as an emergency backup to her two iStick 30W. It still works fine, just doesn't hold a charge like new.

Store only gives one month warranty. Tried arguing with them, but basically told me no chance. Currently trying to do a charge back as paid on card but apparently takes months so just waiting and seeing if can recoup the money.

Got to admit, the MVP20 is old, battered and bruised but still works 100%, even get a day and a half from it on a full charge! Like going back to a 90s mobile phone.

Don't argue with the store. I've found that if they don't want to honor a legit warranty, letting them know that you're going to give them negative reviews on social media (yelp, facebook, etc...) can turn the tables.

If you're outside of the store's warranty perdiod, it's best to take it up with the manufacturer. That's just my humble opinion.

Welcome and glad you joined. Might want to contact Innokin/vendor and ask for a replacement. The TC100 has a 30 day warranty and your just 14 days over. Could tell you were advised to ask by a ECF member and will publish the result.

I contacted the vendor who wanted nothing to do with it. Submitted a support ticket through to Innokin yesterday but not heard back yet. To be honest, if they want it returning, would end up costing me more in postage than I paid for it.

I bought it as a kit with the iSub V but didn't like the tank so got a Smok Baby.

I'm tempted just to cut my losses and accept I bought a lemon, just means I'll avoid Innokin in future. Once burnt and all that...

IMO, I wouldn't cross Innokin off your list just yet. You said your old MVP is still working great, and it's made by Innokin. Maybe you just got "a lemon" on the CF4 TC100. Can happen to even the best of companies.

I've been using a variety of Innokin mods and tanks for 2+ years, and not a single problem from any of them yet.

Um... Good point. My old MVP is still running as well as day I bought it (must be 2 years ago), charged it fully last night and it's still showing me a green light 10 hours later! TC100 would have needed a charge about 4 hours ago.

It's a tough call. Innokin had the best reputation of all a couple of years ago. Smok (by the way) had the worst record in the industry. One 'famous' UK shop (now closed) refused to stock their stuff. I know someone who has had 5 replaced box mods... that poor shop owner.
I gave on Joyetech for 2 years and almost jumped at the original EVIC VTC and that was a shocker!
The mini EVIC VTC has been great, the Cuboid, less so.
*Personally* I don't believe Smok have proved themselves. Only the other day on another forum I read a dreadful story. They also do a lot of incentivized marketing (more than some).... so not all reviews are trustworthy.
Me... I have a 100% success rate with Sigelei.
I buy a mod if I like it. I've long since given up caring like I used to (damn you Joyetech!) ... very few mods are totally dependable i.m.o. other than those made by a few companies and they don't come cheap. 6 months for a $60 mod is cheap enough.

Just my :2c: .....

I've had the Alien kit for a couple months now and really like it. Using a married pair of the LG HG2 batteries, it holds up all day with the baby beast at around 65 watts on a charge. I always charge my batteries on an external charger. So if you can swing it, the Alien kit with 2 pair of good batteries and an external charger should give you good, dependable service. Run your mod while drained batteries are charging and take the spare pair with you (in a case, of course) just in case your work day gets extended. And at some future point, you may want to consider a back-up dual 18650 mod. Good luck!

i know it's cheap, and most don't consider them decent... but i love my kbox 75w mini, it works well, the TC works, it's been pretty accurate for ohms, not too big... but i am picking up a dripbox 160 this weekend... it doesn't have to be used as a squonker, so i can finally make a quad coil on my 454BB etc then just switch to squonk.

A friend of mine uses this setup and swears by it.

I have to admit, after reading a lot of reviews and watching many YouTube videos, I went for the Alien with Samsung 30Qs. I love my V8 Baby which swung me to Smok and like the fact its a 220w which means if I fancy a new tank (TFV8 Beast for example) I have enough power to run it. On the recommendation though from here I am ordering an external charger for the batteries.

Not sure if many are aware (Probably are!) but soon they are enacting laws in UK to limit ECigs. Tank size is my biggest concern as they are limiting it to only 2ml capacity! So I'm going to get a couple of new high capacity tanks. Nice to know this mod will run whatever I go for.

Thank you for everyone's help and advice :)

@CoreyDog just wanted to give you a heads up i have an alien and like it and have had no problems with it some people had problems with the finish so treat it extra gently if that is going to bother you or get a wrap for it.

Thanks for the warning! I went for the gun metal grey. Would like to keep it looking shiny and new aslong as possible. I'll look at a wrap or case.

Thanks again.
