I miss those home made ice cream parties that my parents used to have with friends and relatives. Five or six families would gather, with the women cooking the home made custard, and the men providing the block ice and man power to crank the the ice cream makers. The Cousins would get to chip the ice with an ice pick and keep the ice cream makers topped off with ice. Sometimes we even got to crank it, before it got too hard to turn. That was some good ice cream. Always plenty left over to put in the freezer.
