Hey my name is Tom,

I have been lurking on the forum for a few weeks now and finally decided to join up because of all the useful info. I have been clean of cigarettes for 5 months now and just started moving up from an ego style battery to a vamo v5 and a nautilus mini which i love! I also bought my first rba thanks to the fogger thread which i am a little nervous about now as i haven't built coils before, so any tips are much appreciated!!

Thanks to everyone for the info and look forward to hearing from you.

Hello and welcome to the forum Tom. Glad to have you here!:)

For an education on mods and rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (our resident battery expert) and visit his blogs. Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding mods and rebuildables are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

MODS & REBUILDABLES

7. Information Resources for Your First RBA
* An essential read and reference guide for someone new to rebuilding coils. Includes a multitude of useful links on battery safety, mod safety, coil meters, coil building, and the differences in the three types of RBA's.

15. Inexpensive Mechanical Mod and RDA Setup
* A response to the frequently asked question on how to get into rebuildable atomizers with a mechanical mod inexpensively. Includes a list of commonly used tools and supplies for rebuilding and where to find them.

thank you all for such a warm welcome!

thanks for the links susan, i have done some searching and have an understanding of ohms law and have been safe on batteries so have sony vtc's for 18650 and aw imp 18350's, does this sound about right?

Tom

VTC5 18650 and AW IMR 18350 is what I use.

Well, I say use... as most of the time I power my VV/VW with Panasonic 3,400s which are neither IMR or 'safe chemistry'... whoops.

:)

32 gauge is 0.2mm?

What are you rebuilding?

(oh, I see... fogger type)...

0.2mm gets a bit high a bit quick for me. Great for 2-3 ohm coils, less good for 1.0-1.5

Actually, that's a good point... thank you! I need to make some coils for a dual coil, and 2-3 ohms would be perfect.

I'm going to find it, in the shed!! :) whoo-hoo.

is that just for the longer battery life djs?

Good question!

umm, not really. They were the battery of choice for a while, and were shipped with things like the EVIC and SID. I just bought a load of them from China.

I wouldn't buy them again, but they do last a long time. Back then, an AW was £12.99 and you could get 2 x panasonics for £10.

Thanks for all the answers, I knew signing up here was a good idea :)

I have one last awkward question, having just received my Vamo V5 i love it! I am however worried that when my fogger turns up it won't be able to cope with the wattage that will need to go through the fogger. So can i change the chip in my V5 to similar to the v8 (25w) chip or is it a whole new Vamo time?

Well... it depends.

I run my Kayfun more on my Vamo v5 than my mechanical mods. I build coils around 1.4-1.7ohms (I don't really care..) and power it at somewhere around 10-12 watts most of the time. Sometimes at 15w, but not for long.

If you have a plan to go sub 1.2ohms (or even sub-ohm..) then you'll need another mod.... or get a mechanical.

I have used my Kayfun/Taifun/Drippers way lower than 'Vamo ohms' on a cheap Nemesis or Sigelei, but mostly I'm not fussed.

Try a nice 1.5ohm coil in the fogger on the Vamo at 10-15watts and see if it's enough.

thanks for the help djs, sounds like my plan of a 1.4/1.5ohm build and go from there isn't too far off then :)

thanks vannypak its nice being here!

Nope. That's the place to start. Nothing fancy, just half a dozen wraps, tighten up the coil with some tweezers (if you've not done it before putting it on), slide in the cotton wool, juice it up, test.. assemble.
