Ive never seen a syringe "calibrated" with the needle (because the needles can be taken off). When i buy the industrial boxes of syringes and needles, the box actually says how much liquid the needle holds. I honestly have not used the needle since my first day of mixing though, just no need (and hard with vg). Use the advice of the vets and just pull the plunger out of a syringe. precise, easy, looks cool!

As long as you do the same thing the same way every time it doesn't matter how you do it. 1ml syringes I for flavors on small batches are the only ones I use the needles on. Then it's a 28ga 1/2". I don't worry about how much is in it. That small it's not affecting anything. Plunger only go's in if it won't drip out otherwise.

So I've been giving this ALOT of thought lately because I just wasted 120mls of liquid =(.

but ive come to the conclusion to NOT compensate for the bubble. Im pretty sure that lil bubble that you get when pulling the plunger up is the air inside the needle. Thats the only possible source of air to produce that bubble, especially when you have the plunger all the way down. Now, I used to just to suck up some fluid and then dispense it back into the container and then pull the needle up thus removing all possible air bubbles. Im not going to do this anymore because I am once again compensating. So for super accurate measurements use syringes and do not compensate for the bubble because that bit of space is already being compensated for in the needle. The vacuum that is created by the syringe is holding that liquid in the needle and that bubble is approximately the space that is inside the needle, therefore there is not need to dispense with the bubble or compensate for it.

One quick question about syringes.. should I be measuring form the bottom of the plunger (like you would in a graduated cylinder with the bottom of the liquid) and not the edges?

I measure with the plunger, when edge thats touching the sides is right on the line. I think this is the most accurate. When I dont try and compensate and pull the plunger to the line is when I get my most accurate measurements.
