Over the months I've experimented with lots of tasty e-liquids, but for my daily vape I always gravitate back to the tried and true tobacco/menthol flavor that closer matches the stuff I smoked for many years.

While I've discovered several very good tobacco e-liquids (Tasty Vapor & Vermont Vapor, to name a few), I've found that all of them are much harder on attys than other "lighter" e-liquids. The darker tobacco flavors build up on the coil very quickly, and are much harder to burn off when cleaning.

Question: Has anyone discovered a tobacco-flavored e-liquid that has both great taste (subjective), and doesn't require daily dry-burns to maintain atty performance? Any advice on PG/VG ratios that might help with this, or is it just the nature of the beast?

p.s. I vape only U.S. mixed liquids... the Chinese stuff is way too perfumey for me.

Nhaler 'Nuport' for a tobacco plus menthol taste that is light in color with no buildup (in my experience, you're right on the darker ejuices). For tobacco only - Nhaler's Camule. Again light.

PG/VG ratios - 90% of my ejuices are VG at @ a 80:20 ratio of VG to H2O or PGA. And there are probably as many blends of VG and PG as there are vapers but a common ratio seen when someone prefers the less sweet, and some think more flavorful PG (not me ;-), but want more vapor, is an 80:20 mix of PG to VG, and if you're DIYing, that is something that you should find out for yourself. But 80:20 is a good place to start.

Most USA-made e-liquid is thicker (and darker) than China liquid (e.g., DeKang) and this is challenging to atomizers. I've found that lower-resistance attys (or probably higher-voltage batteries) stand up better to such e-liquid. The increased power (watts) is able to vaporize the thicker juice more effectively.

Many ECFers rave about Alien Visions (especially Boba's Bounty, although I prefer C&D), Halo (e.g., Freedom Juice and Torque56), and FreedomSmokeUSA (various tobacco flavors), and LiquidXpress' Honey Flue Cured. My favorites are still DeKang/Boge's Marlboro (aka USA Mix), DK-TAB, and Flue Cured ... and GrimmGreen has raved about RY3, which I'm looking forward to trying. MyFreedomSmokes is one of the good, inexpensive sources for these China juices, especially in large quantities.

I trust you've given Dekang tobacco flavors a shot? If not, you may be surprised to find that the tobacco flavors do not seem to have that same perfumy undertone that nearly all of their sweeter flavors do. TAB, Flue Cured, Winston and Hilton are regulars in my line-up.

That said, Backwoods Brew and Liberty Flights are two of my top choices for lighter tobacco blends.
