Hey. Okay, kind of a gross thing to bring up, but I figure it's okay here.

Twice this week I've coughed up what I now know to be tonsil stones (Tonsilloliths). I'm fairly sure I've had this happen a few times over my 33 years, but they were few and far between. I've been reading up on the subject this evening to figure out what's going on, but there isn't much concerning vaping and tonsil stones together. There is also nothing that points to tonsil stones and smoking cessation being related specifically.

Is this a normal thing? I only recently started vaping and stopped smoking. I'm just concerned that vaping may be the cause, or smoking cessation may be the cause.

Also, I'm not sure if what's happening is - the tonsil stones have been there for a long time and are now coming loose because I've quit smoking, or if they are forming and coming loose because of vaping (dry mouth or some such side effect of vaping, or even a problem with PG or VG).

Anyone else have any experience with this?

Here is my experience on the subject......

During my 43 years of smoking tonsil stones were a common occurrence. My mother, who was a smoker had a similar problem with stones as well. We didn't know the technical name for them and would just refer to them as "food balls." My tonsils were on the large size and that aided in accumulation of food debris and the subsequent stones. Doctor and Dentist visits throughout those years noted nothing abnormal. They were so common, with a little work, I could empty them out myself. When I started vaping, my tonsils shrunk back to a more normal size. As a result the stones self emptied and the food debris no longer accumulates.

Quite possible you are going through a similar situation. If you are still concern I would see a doctor otherwise I would just monitor the situation and see if the stones disappear on their own.

Thanks Majestic. I was thinking that might be what's happening, something similar to your experience. I haven't had any real bad side effects since I started vaping a few weeks ago, and the tonsil stone thing just threw me a little. I guess I'll know for sure in another few weeks, if it happens more or stops happening completely. I appreciate the response!
