Hello,

i bought a juice called Heaven's Gifts Green Tea PG (18 mg nicotine). It tastes really good. But now i noticed the ingredients, here is the list:

2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexene-1,4-dione2-isopropyl-5-methyl-2-hexenal
Isophorene, 2-ethylpyazine, Nerol
Hexanal, Linalool, Geraniol
Fumaric acid, Vegetable Glycerin
Propylene Glycol (in PG recipe)
Nicotine (except 0 mg recipe)

Having thought juices always only consist out of PG/VG, nicotine and a drop of flavour i am now wondering if that juice wants to give me the gift of heaven and kill me sooner or later or if the ingredients are ok like that?

Do you think it is safe to continue vaping this or should i better find a replacement?

Thank you for comments.

Christian

I'm not a medical professional by any stretch of the imagination, but I do know that ingredient lists list the most used ingredients at the top, and work their way down, as far as how much of each is in it. If that is the case with this stuff, I would definately NOT want to vape isopropyl or any other of those top ingredients! I'd be looking for another vendor NOW!

Having a very small Chem background (ChemE) I'm going to try to decode some of that furya

2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexene-1,4-dione2-isopropyl-5-methyl-2-hexenal

A-ionone, Part of a family of rose compounds known as Ionones -- gives rose flavor

Isophorene
not too sure why this is in there, it's an alarm pheromone as well as being found in and around many metal coating places. Not all the sure why it's in there... maybe as a throat irritant?

2-ethylpyazine
nutty component. This is used in some DIY

monoterpene that gives a lemongrass/hoppy flavor

a basic alcohol, maybe used to add throat hit???

a chemical found in many plants in nature
gives a sweet/spicy scent
can be found in oranges/mints/etc.

monoterpenoid and an alchol that has a rose scent

Fumaric acid
It's in pretty much all humans and animals and gives a sour taste

They're all legitimate flavorings... besides the hexanol and isophorene?
Not too sure why those are in there... maybe shoot the supplier and e-mail and ask them about those two in particular.

I was going to say that they are probably all flavor ingredients. If a supplier listed the ingredients as PG, VG, nicotine, and flavor it wouldn't look so bad, but when you break down the ingredients in the flavor there is some weird sounding stuff. Just know that any vendor that just lists 'flavor' is still going to have a lot of weird sounding .... in their juice, they just don't break it down.

Babemomlover did an excellent job explaining what most of the components in your juice are. It would be cool if we had a running post somewhere where we could add information about typical flavor ingredients when/if they are known.

I wouldn't readily dismiss any potential harms in our juice. I think we should pay attention and keep trying to improve the healthfulness of the product.

That being said, if we're to be so critical of e-juice then maybe we should look at all the others things we ingest. Like fruit http://au.news.yahoo.com/today-toni...the-hidden-chemicals-in-fruit-and-vegetables/. Take a look at the potential side effects from the medicines you take. Consider all of the chemicals inhaled every day while you walk down the street in a busy city. What about the fumes from your house hold cleaners and what not?

Finally (if not firstly ;-) ) could this chemical list be worse than what you were exposing yourself to with analogs? If harm reduction isn't a good strategy then why did we just put seat belts and airbags in cars instead of just ditching them altogether?

[Edit: You can't post next to me Spaz, it's confusing!]

The listing of ingredients in order to show percentage in a substance is something that's done for food and I think people just expect that it's always done that way. I really can't see how that applies in this case as PG is basically last on your list. That should be the majority ingredient by far. I quickly looked at some of my juices that have ingredients and PG or VG is in totally random places on the list when its should be what, like 95% of the contents?

Haha!
I've smoked many things that aren't FDA approved in my youth.

So have a lot of others. Not all of them lived.

I do believe that vaping is much better for you than smoking but that doesn't mean that some vender out of ignorance or greed won't add something that is really bad for us.

The best I can do is to make sure all of the ingredients in my juice are approved by the FDA as generally safe for human consumption.
