So far I've constructed the threaded bit the cartomiser screws into onto a 3x AA cell holder and added a microswitch. Current offerings of AA Ni-Mh cells are 2300mAh, but they have a fair bit of internal resistance - 600mAh Ni-Cd cells actually give longer burn time.

Having got the battery situation more or less sorted; I'd be very interested to hear what better cartomisers will fit the Vapourlites thread.

Stripping the threaded part from a better quality e-cig might be an acceptable option as long as the one-off cost isn't too high.

Thanks.

Are you building your own mod? :)

If you are looking for cartomisers, just start with a bog standard boge 510 or kanger 510. Just don't expect much off a Vapourlite battery.

There are vendors that sell bits and pieces to make an e-cig battery/mod.

After tons of research, including a lot on this site (thanks!), I decided to go with 2 starter kits - Halo Triton and their G6 in autos, because I prefer that while driving and just chillin' sometimes when I don't want to futz with a button. They have the 808 threading which also works with Kanger T4s and Esmart clearos. I stocked up on blank cartos and ordered shedloads of juice samplers.

I'm very happy with my choices and even ordered a G6 setup for my niece for Xmas :2cool:

The battery is already replaced by a 3x AA holder and microswitch - unfortunately the Vapourlites cartomisers are just as crappy as their battery.

Ideally; I'd like to find alternative (better quality) cartomisers that will still fit the Vapourlites thread.

If I really have to - I can buy a (same voltage) better e-cig and strip it for the threaded bit that the cartomiser screws into, but ir wouldn't take much to outrun my cashflow!

If I take the wire link out of the battery holder; I can fit 4x AA cells, so I have an extra 1.2V leeway if needed.

Is there a review section with a list with a rating system for the different brands and styles? I'm searching and reading and holy cow too many to try

Hi wpalex,
What is your purpose of vaping?
To quit analogs? (some are enthusiasts and aren't quitting real cigarettes)
To start a new hobby?
Maybe you are asking on behalf of someone else?

If you are looking to quit, have you at least tried gas station disposables at all?
You need some type of reference to at least start off in an "appropriate" way.

Here is my story and hope this will help you consider the needful:
- wanted to stop analogs completely
- have tried gas stations disposables and know they are not "enough" to make me stop taking analogs
- guessed at the nicotine content being the key.
- wanted a cigalike, because i wanted something that is portable and can be an acceptable substitute for real smoking
(figured as long as i have 2 batteries, should be enough, one charging, one vaping)
- went reading online at reviews of the different starter kits out there.

i eventually settled on the G6 from Halo.
After this purchase, i did come to realize, that there are two major types of threading.
510 and kr808d1
my Halo kit was 808 ... not as popular as the 510.
However, the 510 is a little more heftier than the 808's so im quite happy with my 808 purchase.
808's are the closest to real cigarettes (outside of disposables and im not nearly a good reference on the types of equipment out there, there might be a slimmer form factor but i dunno of one) in terms of form factor and still there is enough various equipment accessories out there to enhance my starter kit IF i so choose to go down this road.

MOST important for quitting analogs, you have to have enough nicotine and throat hit.
I knew the nicotine at 18mg were not enough, so when i ordered my starter kit, i also ordered 24mg juice.
AND this is point where i felt luckiest, Halo juice is pretty good for me in terms of taste/smell.

The amount of nicotine in your juice for you or anyone needs to quit will vary.
My reference was gas station disposables at 18mg and i knew i needed more.
As far as threading on equipment ... the 510 is more popular so if you do choose to make this a hobby and go all-out and buy the next big piece of equipment, you may want to consider this and do the 510 to start.

However, i think the key for me to quit is the juice, not the equipment. Obviously, the equipment should not keep failing and not work, but for me, the hobby part has turned into a juice hunt and not equipment hunt (tho supposedly, equipment has effect on juice taste, but im not completely buying into this, i think it just burns it faster, taste is probably a bit stronger but the taste itself does not change)

For me, i can stay 808 for now and foreseeable future. So far, i've vaped all over the place, and have had no complaints and i think it's due to fact that my equipment isn't as "alien" to the general public.
So, that's how i started. If you take the plunge, just write down a little list of things you are looking for, things you need.
Go get a reference point - if you have a friend that vapes, you can try out his/her equipment, if you have local vape shop, go there and try stuff. Meet your immediate goal, then decide how much more (or less) you would want to do.

Again, i stress nicotine strength and hope you find a juice or two where you like the smell.
:2c: and then some.

Happy Vaping and Be Healthy.

I don't get a lot of time to post let alone read this forum, but from what i read i bought Halo Mini Tanks, battery with the button and some liquid. I love the tanks! I still have regular ciggs too, bought a pack Wednesday and smoked only 5. Its a start. I usually smoke a half a pack to 75% a pack a day pall mall reds. in my opinion they are starting to taste like crap. Bye bye cartridges

In the UK; pharmacies run quit smoking clinics and offer nicotine replacement therapy, the NRT ended a bit abruptly for me so I tried snuff for about a year - but that was costing me just as much as smoking.

Now I vape and have the occasional tin of snuff when I feel I can afford it.
