There's a nautilus tank that has both side and top air flow...as far as I know the top air was mostly to cool the vape but for what I use, a top air flow rda just makes the air flow from the top down then you pull it up through the drip tip. I don't know what else it might do, but it does minimize leaking since the mod has to be basically upside down to leak...

Many topper, especially the ones that use air intake from below then the air goes up to the coil, end up with potential leaking problems because eliquid can just go down the air intake and leak out.

Top intake systems like the manta rda, take air in from the top, and in the case of the manta, channels the air down to the level of the coil and at that point the air goes horizontally to hit the coil like a regular side intake rda.
This means that if some liquid gets to the side airflow holes, it can't leak out downwards; in order to leak out it would have to first go upwards.
If liquid does get into the air channels, the normal action of vaping tends to suck it back into the coil chamber.
