Torching Kanthal Wire

Does it have to be a torch or can I use a normal lighter to oxidize it and remove the springiness? I used my torch for my previous builds but I'm fresh out of butane and I couldn't find it at walmart. Thanks for the help!

A lighter is hot enough to work.

I've heard of people using candles, gas stove, bic lighters... They all work.

I use a lighter. It glows red as I move down the entire wire length. Works perfectly.

Alright thanks guys I was just curious because all of the building tutorials I watched when I first got my dripper used torches.

The wire is so thin that any kind of flame will work just fine. Good luck!!

A lighter will work, but leaves a coating of soot that needs wiped off.

I use a lighter to take out the springiness and a torch to help form the micro-coil.
