So, being a new member here and not allowed to post in the dedicated forums, let's start this thread here.

First I'd suggest starting a parallel forum to the tobacco Extraction subforum for aroma extractions.

Secondly, I'd be interested in compiling some self-made-flavouring recipes. I've done simple steepings of cloves, green tea, coffee, rosemary etc. in PG. Right now, I really like rosemary and menthol flavouring.

What are your favourites? :)

I absolutely agree with you. Was looking to do vanilla and found some few threads on the subject. Might be something to take up with the admins, but I think there would be enough interest to have a dedicated sub-forum for Flavor Extractions.

True. My thought was that since there is still very little on the web regarding diy flavours and it's about one in 20 threads in the tobacco extractions forum, a dedicated subforum might make a good place to bundle knowledge more accessibly.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Those are great suggestions and will look forward to reading those threads when you have your five posts in.

I do Tobacco extractions and have never ventured into the realm of other extractions. Not opposed to it though.

Thanks! :)

Funnily enough, I started the other way around because I got sick and tired of ordering flavourings for about the price of a pack of tobacco and realising they suck. Steeping some herbs, green tea etc. costs next to nothing and is far superior in flavour to bought stuff. [edit: or, if it sucks, chucking it doesn't hurt)

My first tobacco extraction attempt a few days ago seems to be going badly, however. (Pipe tobacco in PG.) At least a first taste has some horrible creamy note that meant I had to change the cotton immediately. We'll see how that goes. :) I think I'll just try some standard rollup tobacco first instead.

How long have they been steeping.

I have some cigars steeping for 2 months and they taste great. Going to let them go at least another month though.

I basically did the kind-of-quick thing that worked well on tea, since tea and tobacco are kind of alike in my mind. (Both dried / fermented leaves.) Meaning I soaked it in PG and put the container into a cup of hot water to have it heated a bit. This greatly sped up the process for tea extraction. Might have messed with the tobacco though.

Anywho - it was just a first tasting after a few days, testing if it was working at all. It already has a deep ochre colour and lots of flavour, just not a very nice one. But I'll let it sit in a cupboard for now and see if it improves.

Wasn't a very good pipe tobacco (Mac Baren Vanilla Cream Loose Cut) so it might also be that. Hm, just thinking that the disgusting sweetish-creamyish-yuckiness MIGHT be subpar vanilla flavouring.

Which cigars did you use? Or rather: what price range? I'm doing the diy thing because I don't want to be spending more on vaping than I would on smoking, so that's a consideration for me. (Not really a financial one, just a "might as well have the cigar then" thought.)

I have a couple of cheaper, but good long filler tobacco cigars going. The one I'm really anxious about is the Acid Blondie. Should be a great one.

The cheaper ones I did as a light, medium, and dark. I already filtered the medium to see how it was after 7 weeks. It's good, but letting the rest go for a full 3 months at least.

As for price, not sure. These were in my humidor and don't remember what I paid. The Acid is the pricier one.

Alright, did a new quick steep, same method (Pg, waterbath heating for about 20 mins) with unflavoured Virginia Pipe Tobacco. Tried a test vape after a few hours of steeping (since the ugly taste developed immediately last time), similar taste overall but no sweet decompositiony yuckiness. Must've been the Vanilla then.

Funnily enough, since I know it's the vanilla I don't find it as repugnant upon another try. Still yucky, but not "almost puke" yucky. No Vanilla is def. better.

However, I feel I'd need some burnt taste added. Has anybody experimented with roasted stuff etc. for that "burning" flavour. Hm, quick thought, I'll try adding a drop of Laphroig just for giggles.

Acid blondie was about 7 bucks If I remember right. I have a couple soaking right now. Just started them 3 days ago so Ill get back to ya'all in a couple months about how they turn out. One is a Drew Estate MyUziWeightsATon, nad the other is a Punch Bareknuckle. I also have a quater jar of Pipe tobacco going... Frog Morton On the Town. Loved it in my pipes, hoping its just as good in my Vape.

Regarding NET extractions, just started a couple weeks ago myself & so far great results thanks to the info on the forums. Bought some good quality ingredients & tobacco, a single cigar will make a ton of juice so no sense in going too cheap. I used a hot plate and steeped in a 130-140 degree water bath in smaller mason jars, 100% PG. About 6 hours on heat and then a 12 hour rest for a few days on the pipe tobacco, 5 days for the cigars. I read not letting it get over 140 eliminates any grassy/off flavors. Filtered through a coffee filter first, then aeropress filter twice and then 5 micron filter cut to aeropress size. Kept the juice warm while filtering, makes it go much faster. After that mixed to 15-20% in PG/VG. To me it tastes just as good as the better commercial juices I've had. Not that skilled, it's just not a very complicated recipe or process. I hear cold maceration tastes even better so will be doing that next once more PG arrives in the mail.

Sorry, don't have a Vanilla made yet but have a CAO vanilla CAO Flavours - PipesandCigars.com arriving shortly. The CAO Moontrance I brewed turned out really good, slightly light but nice flavor and easy on the coils.
