I'd like to build a box mod in the next week or two. The electronics part of the project is straightforward. The thing I'm totally lost on is picking an Atomizer / Cartomizer.

My dream is to find a thread that lays out all the different systems (510, 901, 905, 808, eGo, ...) and all the different attys / cartos available for each of them. I'd like to see pictures, discussion of day to day use, and the details of what is compatible with what connector-wise. Can I refill this? Can I drip that? I feel like I'm shooting in dark.

Things are even more confusing than when I bought my first equipment last Fall. I see that some systems have both cartomizers and atomizers available like the 510, eGo, and probably more.

I got into esigs with an M401 passthrough kit. The passthough died after two months and three of my four atomizers are now dead. I converted the passthrough into an ultra-ghetto mod which has worked well but now I'm down to one working atty and the writing is on the wall. I need new hardware asap!

The upside of having virtually no equipment is that I'm not tied to a specific system. The downside is that I have absolutely no idea what to try next and I don't have the budget to try them all.

I hated my M401 atomizers (genuine joye). I hate that 401 carts only hold 3-4 drops. I hate that I've never been able refill a cart and have it wick juice properly. I hate dripping. Well, dripping would be ok if I didn't have to refill after every other drag and if the juice didn't leak from the bottom of the atty.

Here's what I want in a new system:

    1. Durable, long lasting attys / cartos. I can't be blowing $20 a month on them. My vaping budget is extremely limited.
    2. Carts that are easy to refill, and refills that actually work.
    3. When dripping it must last more than a couple puffs before needing a refill.
    4. Must not leak everywhere when dripped if it does do dripping.

The one thing that doesn't matter at all is taste / flavor quality. I make my own juice with 100% PG and menthol crystals. I doubt that anything can kill the flavor of straight menthol crystal juice.

Also, is there a basic thread on atty vs carto? I've read that some cartos have silicone plugs that are easy to remove for refill while others have hard caps. I know that some people refill cartos but I have no clue how long they last. I've been using one lone M401 atty for over 6 months. Could I get that much out of a cartomizer? What kind?

And I could go on and on... But I won't! :)

Hmmm... Yes, it's not easy finding concise info on low cost/common adapters. I find myself plowing thru threads just trying to get a handle on the same thing.

The easiest one to find may be for the 901. Carried by Radio Shack under part #274-1582 (Thanks to ThePuck) as described in this thread:

    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/106016-how-build-puck.html

I will almost certainly embark on building one of those just as soon as I manage to aquire a 901 atty. It just makes too much sense considering how many NiMH batteries I have already. And given that there is an updated version that gives a bit higher output (NiZn), I'll have to give that a whirl as well.

The rest of the info you seek is scattered all over. The best overall availability of adapters is on a sticky at the top of this section:

    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-401-510-801-901-connector-thread-v2-1-a.html

But, of course, you can't just dash down to Nerfs place and pick one up. That requires premeditation.

I think I have the actual connector situation under control. The popular connectors are available from webshops that handle mod supplies. Then there are adapters to adapt one connector to another like a 901 to 510 adapter, so it seems that even if I pick the "wrong" connector I can use an adapter to get the "right" one.

The thing that's getting me is which specific atomizer or cartomizer do I buy to screw onto my mod? I don't want to blow $50 on a pack of attys that I'm going to hate for the next year. This probably isn't the right place for the question since it's only tangentially related to modding but I didn't see any other place that it clearly belongs either.
