Hi Everyone,
I just started vaping on Sat. I've been a Marlboro light smoker for over 25 yrs. I got a starter kit on sat. After reading all these posts I'm just totally lost on the acronyms for things...it's like totally foreign? I have a Kangertech Evod starter kit. I have like 3 flavors. I'm battling needing a real cigarette right now. I use 18 mg. I just want something to replace smoking a real cigarette. I don't need all the fancy stuff I see on here...frankly it's scary to me that all these options exist? Can anyone suggest to me what to do/expect? I can't vape all day...I work and I'm sure I can't do it there...I just want something plain and simple. From what I've read so far...this is really complicated? Does it really have to be? Help please!!

I just started vaping as well and the starter "gear" I got was a simple e-Go C Twist with a VV (variable voltage) I use a simple Kanger T3 e-Go bottom coil 3.0 Clearomizer, I really like that one. There is no way I can even think about the "fancy" units right now as I am still getting familiar with it all. If the one you're using is working for you that's all that matters but I do have to agree with everyone who mentioned a backup, my first few days of no smoking I was almost nursing on my e-Go so the battery died and thankfully I did get a backup. Good Luck and one step at a time

If you want, there are many great resources that could help you "translate" the information. Here are a couple of examples:
Proper terminology - Is it a carto, a tank, or what? A Guide to Juice Attachments.
Forum Glossary

You have an excellent starter kit, and you really don't need anything any more complicated than that ever. Not unless you want something else. Folks like me only have the fiddly and fancy stuff because we like and enjoy it, not because it's strictly necessary.

There are lots of great YouTube videos that will help you with Evod use and maintenance. I assume you are already familiar with filling the tank and changing the coil heads:

If you want more thorough instructions, there are lots more where that came from. Here's a video regarding more thorough cleaning, for example, and a video showing you how to rebuild your Kanger coils. REMEMBER, however, that dry burning and rebuilding are both optional. You never have to do either if you don't want to.

Personally, I rotate coil heads: every time I refill a tank, I soak the used coil head in cheap vodka or water and put a new or recently cleaned head in the tank. Mine have lasted a very long time, but they will need periodic replacement. For the batteries that come with an Evod kit, I generally recommend replacement heads with a resistance of 1.8 to 2 ohms. As you can see in this photo, each coil head's approximate resistance is engraved on the base (you may need to use a magnifying lens to see it, but the authentic heads are labeled).

I'm battling needing a real cigarette right now. I use 18 mg.
I would recommend trying some 24mg juice in at least one of your tanks for now, and try holding the vapor in your mouth for a bit before exhaling. As long as the nicotine doesn't make you woozy, give you headaches, keep you awake at night, or make your tongue feel burned, you're probably not overdoing it. You can always reduce your nicotine level later.

This may also be helpful to a novice vaper: Inhalation technique.

I started with 30mg Ry4 and some 24mg menthol. A few puffs and the craving for a cig went down a whole lot. I was not a menthol smoker but it did hit the spot. Ry4 is a fairly nice tobacco type juice too. It did not take long before i was able to reduce the nic level but i still keep some 24mg around just in case.

Hang in there, it can work if you want it to work. Ive got friends that quit using the most basic devices and have no interest in the hobby aspect or fancier stuff.

I was a marlboro ultra light smoker for years. it took me 24mg nic to actually break free from the stinkies. only after a year and a half was i able to move down to 18mg. my end goal is around 12 mg, but if it takes me 2 months or 10 years, i don't care, as long as i'm analog free. count your successes not your failures, every cigarette you skip is a step in the right direction.

and when you need support, ecf is a great place to reach out. there is ALWAYS someone online to root you on!

you can do this.

Smoking Marlboro lights for only 25 years! You're just a baby! :^) ...My friend, (whom I don't know), trust me on this... Ditching analogs is easier than you think. Don't worry about understanding anything. It'll all come in time. Keep reading. Watch some YouTube videos (ok, lots of 'em). Follow some of the great advice posted here, by friendly, helpful, experienced fellow enthusiasts... and supplement your vaping with (quality) Swedish Snus; not the garbage sold as such by US based big tobacco. Just a guess but, I'd almost bet that you'll never crave smoking another tobacco cigarette again.

I just threw my tobacco away (yes, it's been a few days)... don't miss it at all, despite our 40+ years relationship. Good riddance! ...and TG for vaping!

Well, I'm into my 3rd week of vaping now and gave up ciggies after my first vape.. I was lucky that my first flavour was so delicious ..it was a blend of 36mg cherry and 18mg tobacco... I've tried varying strengths and flavours but that's still my fave. I've 4 ego 1100 batts and 6 clearos +2 chargers ( it was a good 'put together' deal ) so I'm in no danger of running dry... just recently I ordered a mpv2 .. only because I've read such good things and the battery lasts for ages without needing a charge ... I smoked for nearly 50 yrs and thought I'd never give up... in fact, I didn't really intend giving up but cigs are just too dear now I'm not working ( never been ill in my life :) )
if I can do it, I think anyone can, you're doing well... just keep to whatever works for you

Welcome to the forum and no it doesn't have to be complicated at all.
All you need is 2 or possibly 3 batteries, a couple of hassle and leak free toppers, a couple of chargers and some good juice at the right strength. If you really must have a cigarette and nothing else will do then have one, slow and steady progress is still progress. Celebrate the cigarettes you didn't smoke and forgive yourself the ones you did.
One possibility that has been mentioned before is stealth vaping a quick puff hold the vapor in your mouth then exhale scented air and no one need know about it. To do this I found it convenient to have a mini ego battery something like this one SmokTech Mini eGo battery -350mAh - Black
Good luck to you.

Thanks everyone for your responses.
I do have 24 mg of regular "tobacco" flavor that I'm mixing with the 18 mg of flavors.
I guess it's just trial and error. I get scared seeing all these elaborate things on here and looks so complicated to me.
I'm looking to reduce how much I spend on smoking and not increasing it with another addiction
(like buying lots of vape supplies I will never use). Just something plain and simple.
I see there is a whole culture out there of vaping and it's cool...but there has to be something for the average person that just wants to quit regular smoking and try something different to overcome the habit.

Hi
yepper, sounds like you don't want to make a hobby of it, and that's fine !
just want to stop smoking--don't beat yourself up, it will just happen with vaping...

it is a big difference, getting electric nicotine after burning tobacco and paper

and you have the Best Kit to do so -- 2 batteries, 2 evod clearomizers (tanks)
buy the replaceable coils and just keep vaping, learning

get different nic level of juices-no matter how things go, you'll always need/search for juice
putting different juices in tanks and use what you need (nic levels)

you're done, you're there--you made the decision, spent the money-now just VAPE ;)

I've used, and got many others to stop smoking, using the EVOD starter kit

Just Keep going as you are, and chase the juice you like most

all the other 'stuff' will just fall in place (if you'll even care)

my wife sneaks in the bathroom stall and pulls out her evod and sneaks a few vapor-puffs
it is how she gets thru the day...

- extra coils and you might want a glass tank which uses the same coils -

- Kanger eVod Coil replacements
- Kanger Mini ProTank II w/ Removable Drip Tip

Oh, and some juice - - Best E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Cig Juice - MT Baker Vapor

Vape≈Happy :) good luck ! -- you can do it ! !

Welcome to ECF and congratulations of the progress you have made thus far! The first week was hard for me too as it is for everyone. Just hang in there and you wont even crave the real thing anymore. I haven't had even a drag of a cigarette in over 2 month and now when my friends smoke around me the smell is disgusting.

As far as the lingo, you will get used to it and it will all make sense if you decide to go down that road of becoming a hobbyist. If you don't feel like doing that and just want to use a ego or whatnot to quit then you wont even have to worry about any of it other than what you want to use/have used. There is a learning curve and the angle of that curve depends on how far you want to take it.

The main point is that you have taken the first step in quitting smoking. Once you find what works for you then you can decide to stop there of see just how deep the rabbit hole goes. Good luck and I wish you the best of luck.

First off welcome and don't be discouraged by the information overload. Quitting cigarettes is enough of a headache. First go here:

and then for all your acronym confusion go here:
E-Cig Glossary. Definitions, abbreviations, and meanings. | eCigology
In no time you'll be spitting out the jargon!!
And no this is not complicated at all; like anything else with some knowledge you will find your comfort level.

First off sasa91998 Welcome to ECF !!!! :D I started at 26 mg nic and slowly brought down the nic level to 18. however after that my e-cig died. I use mine to cut analogs down. Also in the hope to get to the point to just vape. But that is up to the person on how they use it. if you feel that it works for you but you think that you might drain the batt~. Then I say, think about get a spare battery so you can vape as long as you want.

Hi sasa and welcome to ECF. So glad you found us. I smoked Marlboro 100s for 45 years so I know exactly where you are right now. This is very confusing in the beginning. Matter of fact, a bunch of stuff is still confusing and I am approaching 4 months smoke free! You do not have to make this a hobby. Some do, many don't. I plan to eventually step down my nicotine and stop vaping in a couple of years or however long it takes me to feel comfortable to stop vaping. Time is what I have and more of it now that I am no longer smoking.

I want to invite you to come and visit a group of people that vape and some do still smoke. We talk about vaping and cravings and what to do about vape problems and just about everything under the sun. The main thing is that we support each other and since there is a combination of new people and old hand veteran vapers, there are many ideas and perspectives offered. You do not have to post, you can just look, which is called lurking here on ECF. Post if you have a question. You will get answers, and usually pretty quick. Come join us!

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ed-smoking-habit-support-chat-thread-458.html

By the way, it sounds like you are doing pretty great. My first week I was using 18mg nicotine and felt like the cigarettes were chasing me. Someone suggested that I bump it up to 24mg and I did that. As soon as I did I was able to totally put the cigarettes down and have not had one since. Yeah, I get those craving times and fleeting thoughts about having a cigarette, but I find, with time, those come less and less. I am pretty happy with my vaping and even though I am an old lady I can get a kick out of the young ones who take my groceries to my car and see me pull out my ecig and the looks of amazement on their faces. They get a kick out of me and my MVP2 or spinner. And I get a kick out of them and their reaction. So all is good.

Vaping doesn't have to be a hobby...so you don't have to chase every shiny new object and you don't need to know everything. All of us are experts at some devices and totally clueless about others. I do agree about upping the nic to 24mg. You can always taper off later.

Yep... what he said! You only have to do what it takes to keep you off analogs. Keep it simple.

When I started vaping I did it to quit smoking like you, I started with 24mg but I jumped into the deepend and got flavors that I thought Id be craving cause every other time I quit smoking I wanted those comfort foods like deserts. It was fun and I quit smoking within days of vaping. I did always have a clean tank ready with unflavored juice just to clean my palate. I would have recommended a good bakery but i think that business is sinking, if your anything like me and want to try some desert vapes to curb your cravings I just found a new place Juice-e-juice, the chocolate peanutbutter fudge brownie is yummy lol. anyways good luck on quitting the tar for some flavor and extra years in life.

i was all over the map when i was trying to kick my habbit and i smoked menthols for about 10 years and have been cig free for 5 full days now and not vaping on menthol juice either. its not a walk in the park at all but what i did was i started dripping a 6mg juice once i was serious about quitting. that made all the difference for me and i'm using an itazte mvp first gen with an igo l single coil dripping atomizer

I would have to agree about two batteries and two Evod tanks. The also make Evod batteries in two power levels IIRC. So you can get a COMPLETE Evod 2 battery kit with two tanks fairly cheap. They can be any battery actually but i see very few bad reviews on the Evod tanks. They work for the majority i see posting.

This is an Evod 1000mah battery, it looks like any other slimmer type battery. MAH is the amount of battery power before you need to recharge.
Elite Vaporworks Kanger eVod 1000 mAh Battery - Kanger eVod / MT3S / Protank

This is the Evod tank and it matches the battery VERY well.
Elite Vaporworks Kanger eVod Bottom Coil Cartomizer - Kanger eVod / MT3S / Protank

Five pack of your heating elements that we call a coil.
http://elitevaporworks.com/kanger-evod/kanger-evod-replacement-coils-5-pack.html

And lastly a USB charger.
Elite Vaporworks eVod USB Charger - Batteries and Chargers

All of theses item are often found in a complete kit except the extra heating elements (coils). This may not be the best price but its intended for educational information and frankly its a nice simple kit that works. It not huge or too small IMO. Keep one battery on the charger while you use the other until it is ready. Swap them when the one you are using gets too low.

There is no adjustment on these but you can get ones that allow voltage adjustment for not much more. You just push a button and get used to taking a DRAW. Its a little different than taking a DRAG. IMO its more like the way you use a straw and a milkshake that is not too thick.

I have the same starter kit as you do and it is working well for me. It was a learning curve and I learned a lot on this forum. For instance I now push the battery button down a few seconds before a drag. Then I take a long slow drag, hold in my mouth a second and then inhale. I smoked menthol ad started with menthol juice but now like a vanilla flavor better.

I didn't believe it either but having tried to quit several times I found I enjoy the process of smoking too much which is why this vaping is working for me. One thing I like is I never smoked in the house because of the smell and had to go outside every time I wanted a smoke. I can vape inside and no one will ever smell it. We go on a lot of cruises and had to go to the smoking room. Next time I will vape in my cabin and no one will know. I have been smoke free for 11 days.

You will get used to it. I have no intention of getting anything other than my EVOD and ego battery set up. I always have an extra battery charged. But I will try different flavors just for fun.

Good Luck. You really can do this!

Get one of these as a backup or primary. The Variable Voltage (VV) and Variable Wattage (VW) will be extremely useful. This is a 30-50 dollar discount over what this device is going for right now: Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0 - 101 Vape

MVP 2.0 Owners Thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ussion/473345-itaste-mvp-v2-owners-group.html

Next, as others have said, get yourself up to 24mg.

Finally, do you like fruit flavors or dessert flavors?

Try this vendor and see if you like their flavoring > Mt Baker Vapor I recommend cinnamon roll or/and sticky bun (I actually combined the two and am hooked on it now) in 24mg, at 65pg/35vg with 2 flavor shots. If you like fruity flavors try the Moo Juice in 24mg at 65pg/35vg with 2 flavor shots. Don't overdo it on the flavor shots or you can end up causing an opposite reaction (too much flavor actually mutes the flavor). Get yourself a good glass tank like a Mini Protank 2. The citrus/spicy liquids tend to crack the plastic tanks.

I also recommend www.Nicoticket.com for excellent liquid too (Custard's Last Stand and Creme Brulee)

if 24mg doesn't cut it, you can go up to 36mg . Just a warning, the higher the nicotine level the more peppery your liquid might taste so I picked flavors that will really stand out for you.

This will get you started and should help cut down your cravings. It still won't be easy but it will make it doable and give you some breathing room. Also, Mt. Baker Vapor is extremely low priced and they give a free sample on orders over $15.00. Nicoticket is what *I* consider a premium vendor with extremely good liquids that are more complex if not a bit more subtle, however they don't go up to 24mg because I believe at that level the nicotine peppery hit can change the flavors.

Then take some time to peruse the forums and see what other flavors people recommend that you might like. Do your research before you just start ordering because it may not be what you think it is.

The setup cost is a little high, depending on how much you smoke you can expect to spend a month or two's worth of cigs in one go to get stocked up, but after that it is just maintenance supplies such as coil replacements and liquids. Forget about anything complex for now such as recoiling (good way to save some $$) and Do It Yourself (DIY) liquids (also can save money this way). Just focus on getting through this stage of it and see where you are in a month. Maybe then you'll want to delve into recoiling wicks and some DIY recipes.

Mt. Baker Vapor thread with a lot of good info (sometimes goes off-topic) http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-liquid-discussion/285341-mtbakervapor-2267.html

Also, the EVOD tanks are a staple, I have four of them, that said, I am awaiting my 2nd glass tank because they are more hassle free. I don't have to worry about flavors that might ruin my plastic EVODS, which makes it less of a hassle when trying to order liquid. Also, Mt. Baker Vapor's ship times are usually very fast. 2 days to go 3,000 miles or so in my case with regular shipping. I'm amazed the USPS can move that fast honestly.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. 101vapes.com also has the Mini Protank 2's on salfe for 10.49 I believe (good price. they average between $13.00 and $19.00 elsewhere).

If you find yourself vaping more and more, make sure to lower that nicotine level down to something like 16mg or 12mg. This might happen if you find a flavor you really like. I also find in the evenings it is a good idea to pick something with a lower nicotine content otherwise it keeps me up. lol. For me 6mg to 12mg is good during the evenings. In the mornings I like 18mg and 16-18 during the day while at work.

I started smoking at age 13 and except for 2 years in my early 20's when I quit cold turkey (one of the most difficult things I ever managed) I was a moderate - heavy smoker right up until September of this year. The gum, the patches, the pills, none of it worked. This did.
