Hi folks,

I'm looking to transition from smoking hookah 2-3 times a day to vaping. I'd like some suggestions for getting started with this. Since there seems to be so much information available here, it's hard to sift through it all.

Ideally, I'd like to get pretty decent clouds (don't need to be HUGE) without going sub-ohm as I'm not ready for getting into the tinkering yet. I'd also like it to have a good, sturdy feel to it with a fair size. I won't be carrying it around with me all day

I'd like to spend sub $200 all said and done, less is better. I've looked at the ProVari and it looks real nice but it seems pretty expensive.

Any suggestions would be appreciated =)

Edit: Nicotine is not important. I don't smoke hookah for the nicotine as it is, mainly for the clouds and flavor. Also, I'd like for whatever device to have a pretty long lasting battery.

Start small and work your way up to a nice Mech mod and learn how to build coils. In my experience RDAs are about the closest thing to a true hookah experience. The biggest difference is the temp of the vape compared to the temp of the smoke off a hookah, hookahs are a lot cooler in temp.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that when you start to learn about coils and building them you will want to know about ohms law and the limitations of your batteries.

The Provari is a rock solid device but is probably not going to give you the power you may desire for clouds.

Using a 30 watt device like the Sigelei 30W will give you enough power to do builds for big clouds should you decide you wish to do that in the future. Also, the electronics offer safety features. They also have an Authentic Aspire Nautilus Tank Clearomizer. Use the coupon code, CIRCUITCIG30W for free shipping.

Another good tank would be the Kanger Aerotank Mega 2.0 oHm - 3.8ml.. For 15% off use the coupon code SAVE.

Pick up a Nitecore I2 Universal Intelligent Charger or an Xtar WP2S Intelligent Li-ion Battery Charger Special Edition and a couple of Sony US18650VTC5 2600mAh 30amp batteries.

my suggestion is the provari mini maybe even a "blem" one found in clearance section, and aerotank mega or nautilus. and then eventually upgrading your tank to a kayfun :) if you go cheap youll just end up spending more eventually imo, i think youll be pleased with the vape rather than the hookah!

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the reply! What advantages do the provari minis offer over the provari original?

Thanks Strafe! Yeah I'd like to make my debut into vaping with a high quality device now and do some of the tinkering after I've been into it longer

I was looking at some reviews of the Sigelei 20W (couldn't find any for the 30W). I do like the fact that it's variable wattage over just variable voltage.

It looks pretty nice. I assume all those tanks have rebuildable coils?

Thank you all for your suggestions so far!

...

If you want clouds the 30 watts of power will greatly simplify your life. The Sigelei 30W is pretty much the same thing as the Sigelei 20W with more power.

Neither the Aerotank Mega nor the Nautilis are particularly straightforward rebuilds. I personally wouldn't bother. They both should give you a reasonably satisfying vape without having to rebuild but I doubt anything but an RDA will give you the hookah experience that you want. However, if you do want to rebuild Rip Tripper has a video on rebuilding the Nautilis with a single micro coil and this is a video showing an Aerotank single coil rebuild. This slideshow shows and Aerotank Mega dual coil build.

Since its clouds that you are wanting I would suggest you skip the rebuilding clearos and go straight to building RDAs. Look for an RDA with a small chamber for better flavor which I assume is important to you because you are trying to replace the hookah experience. Also, getting an RDA with an adjustable air flow of some type will let you experiment without having to drill out air holes.

Get a decent clone to learn how to build an RDA. Don't spend the money for a top quality original until you have figured out what it is you like and don't like. Once you have five posts and the server resets at 25 minutes after the hour you can ask for suggestions in the Rebuildable Atomizer Systems.

I think I might go for the Sig 30W then with Nautilus or Aerotank.

Do you have a source (sources) you'd suggest?

If I may, look into an MVP2 iTaste MVP 2.0 (Version 2). Variable wattage and voltage, along with an ohm reader so you know what resistance your at if you mix up coils or for if you get into rebuilding at some point. The Nautilus seems to be a ncie tank, though I've not used one personally it's highly recommended at my local B&Ms.

I was a hookah smoker for quite a while as well, and I'll still partake every now and then. One of the flavors I've found that best emmulates hookah to me is Halo's Midnight Apple. Extremely similar to an apple hookah, it's the only tobacco eliquid I've found vapeable personally. http://www.halocigs.com/midnight-apple-eliquid.html

The Sigelei 30W is so new that it won't be available in very many places and the link I used is probably the cheapest price you will find for it. I don't personally know anything about the vendor but I found the link on the ECF Deals and Steals thread so they should be reputable.

Both the Aerotank Mega and the Nautilus can have gurgling and leaking issues if the heads happen to be bad. I would personally be inclined to buy the Mega I linked to because the vendor is Vapor Beast. They have exceptionally good customer service if anything at all is amiss.

Alrighty, here's what I went with:

Mod: Siegel 30W ($94) (circuitcig)
Additional: Itaste MVP 2.0 ($39) (circuitcig)
Tank: Kanger Aerotank Mega ($30) (vaporbeast)
E-Liquid: A few from Vapor Cloud, one from VaporBeast ($41) (vapercloud & vaporbeast)
Batteries: 2 Sony US18650VTC5 High Drain batteries ($20) (amazon)
Charger: Nightcore intelligent charger for 18650 ($12) (amazon)

Sum: $235 after discounts (surprisingly no shipping costs for anything but the vapor cloud)

How'd I do?

You did great! The only thing I would suggest is to pick up a second juice delivery device for a backup if you find that RDA building turns out to be slow going for you.

I'm thinking about getting the nautilus as well. Is this what you're referring to vs the kanger (which I assume is the drip atomizer)?

If you want a hookah taste juice, i'd recommend strawberry hookah from yaeliq. Tastes exactly like the real deal.
It's been my ADV for quite awhile now.

Also the 100ml for 18$ is unbeatable.

How's the VG vs PG content on that and how's shipping? Although I guess since you're in Sweden, it'd be a bit different lol

Thank you both, guys. Shipments are coming from a few sources so it may be a bit before I get it all together, but I'll definitely update after I've had a chance to try it all out!

You can custom the PG/VG content to what you like in a dropdown menu. :)
Before you could add extra flavours aswell but that option seems to be removed now.
They've a 10$ flatrate shipping delivery. :)

Yaeliq is one of my favorite vendors, hard to beat the amount ml per $ and their juices are premium.
Every month they have a steal of a deal aswell, which is 10$ per 100ml of their selected juices.

I've never been a fan of pushing beginning vapers into rebuilding but I expect that this is what you will likely find is needed to get the type of satisfaction as far as flavor and vapor production since you come from a hookah experience. If the Mega is satisfying to you the Nautilus would likely be so as well. If not, put a strong priority on rebuilding RDAs.

You might want to start learning to build with this RDA, Smok UDA Dripping Atomizer. It has a small chamber for good flavor and adjustable air flow to adjust draw and vapor production. Directions are in this video, Smok UDA Dripping Atomizer - SmokShop, but I would suggest a cotton wicked micro coil rather than the build shown. Play around with different oHm builds and different air flow to learn how those aspects of building interact with one another.

Since you are coming from hookah rather than smoking there is probably a good chance that you might not be all that happy with budget juice vendors such as Yaeliq, Mount Baker, EC Blends, et al. Try some small sizes of juice from mid to higher priced vendors on this list, Top 5 vendors (e-liquid). Sadly, some juice vendors seem to be more talented in getting their minions to flog their brand rather than in mixing juices. The format of that thread minimizes their impact.

I wouldn't call yaeliq budget though. Most of their flavours have beaten those i've came around here in sweden atleast. Exceptions being watermelon / blueberry, they realy dissapointed me.
And i can realy say strawberry hookah on my rebuilded protank 2 mini tastes just as good as it does on my kayfun.
It's realy close to the hookah taste, more so on the protank mini than on kayfun. The taste is almost overpowering on the kayfun ~ 1 ohm build.

But i wouldn't recommend a new guy to order 100$ worth of juice there as a start. Either buy some samples first or just buy this one juice. I was thinking since he's coming from a hookah i think this juice would suit him realy well. They also got an apple hookah, which i haven't tried.

The blend i'm using is 50/50 18mg.
