Ok, hate to admit it, I've been starting my daily ritual of watching the weather reports. And have had a few anxiety attacks in the evenings. NO..I never have anxiety attacks until I'm about to fly, it's that bad.
I was never afraid to fly until two back to back HORRIBLE flights from Paradise Island Bahamas to Miami. Both times prop planes w/a curtain for the cockpit door. Like maybe 15 passengers if that. Both times got caught in storms..lightening..wind, rain...over the ocean..I'm freaking thinking about it. Ever since then, I have a horrible fear.
I'm only 114 lbs and I have to take 2 mg..TWO not 0.2 ,but 2.0 mg of Xanex and it does hardly nothing to me until I land. Then I'm in lala land and miss my whole entire first day of vaca knocked out cold. UUGGGHHHHH!!!! Weird tho, I'm not afraid to fly in helicopters just planes of any kind and I haven't done a prop plane since those two trips which was about 21 yrs ago.
That's sad, really.
I've been on a few prop planes, and yeah, it always gets kinda hairy at times. They're sh%$@y flyers and pilots hate them as much as everyone else.
The weird part is that the engines are just as reliable as those of a jetliner. The main difference is that you're a lot more subject to turbulence. Anyone who's flown long enough on those has seen things that no one should see; sudden banks/rolls, jarring that tosses things up in the air, etc.
But overall, they're still incredibly durable, and safe. Maybe not comfortable, especially with those engines buzzing next to you for hours, but definitely safe.
Tip: if you ever have to fly one again, pick one with a top wing; they're more stable, and bring noise cancelling headphones (the pilots do).
The small business jets are just a dream, compared to those. Canadair or Embraer, it doesn't matter; very smooth flight, roomy, quiet, and most passengers don't bother the stewardess (there's only one), so she/he can accommodate any special needs, like extra alcohol

.
I remember flying one of those... My then-fiancee was flying up from Houston (I was living in Montreal at the time) and she got stuck in Toronto, on a Friday evening, so I hopped on the next flight to Toronto to pick her up, and we flew back to Montreal on the last flight of the day (she got drunk on the plane

).
