Hi all -

purchased a Trident clone from a local B&M store and I really like it....when it works. The problem, I believe, is that the 510 screw is countersunk inside the the 510 connection. In many cases, it's not making contact with my mod's positive connection. I've gotten it to work sporadically by tightening it down to the mod but now it doesn't appear to be making contact at all. Not sure where the problem lies and, even worse, I haven't been able to figure out how to disassemble it to check the connections. Are the deck posts removable so that I could remove the delrin and work with it, or did I get a poorly assembled clone? I've tried backing out the 510 screw and it just spins and doesn't move in or out.

Thoughts?

You don't say what mod - a mech with floating or adjustable post, or a APV with typical fixed, non-adjustable post? Unless you have an adjustable pin, I would avoid over-tightening as it may have pushed it down so far as to prevent contact with other (or future) attys. You may be able to "gently" pry the 510 pin back up a bit - .010" - maybe .015".

You don't say if the atty 510 screw & post is all one piece - as in the center post/screw is pressed in to a tight fitting plastic bushing/seal - or the "510 screw" is separate from the positive post... as far as you can tell. To put it another way, you say "it just spins" - does the entire post spin, or just the 510 contact?

You should be able to press out the center post and/or post and screw component so that you may identify the problem more effectively. Typically, they are only a light interference or press fit, so it shouldn't take a great effort. If you don't have a press, a vise and socket to support the atty base will do. A drill press, 'C' clamp, wood clamp etc etc, can be used as well.

I had this problem with my trident clone. It fires sporadically and doesn't make a very good connection with any of my mods, I ended up trashing it.

Yeah, mine wound up in the trash yesterday. I tried to see if I could get the center pin out and wound up breaking the positive connection on the atty deck. I'll be looking for a decent replacement today.

Jimi D. - thanks, but you don't indicate how you got the screw out of the delrin to replace it.

Just unscrew it. Then it pulls out.
