Trip to the dollar store=TRIPLE COIL PV?!

Here i was in the local dollar store, the automotive/tool aisle. I went in for some injector cleaner for the car and turned around for the counter and saw this.

[lol at my poor picture folder arrangement]

It immediately had potential in my head as a PV enclosure. As you can see I "CAREFULLY" disassembled it and found that the circuit board would be absolutely perfect to solder 3 nichrome coils to. Even better, it takes AAA batteries[4.5v] that could easily be long life rechargeables.

Time to rip those LED's off and solder some coils to this thing.

I'll be back to this thread soon with the end result, and see if I can find a supply link.

If I understand you correctly you will burn up the circuit board instantly. The nichrome gets far too hot for that. You need something that can withstand the heat. Ceramic and porcelain seem to be best as that is what stock atomizers use. I suppose you could use a metal but I would not suggest it.

These flashlights are used mainly for making large battery enclosures which connect to stock atomizers.

Yea I thought about that, but I'm messing with it and I've figured out that I have enough space to elevate the coils about 1/4'' from the circuit board. I'm thinking that would be enough to avoid barbecuing the board.

I'll mess with it for a couple hours and post results. ;)

JUST CAME TO MIND: I think I may need more than 4.5 volts for 3 coils:lol:
No big deal I have a pile of stuff I can try with this. :p

Well well well....IT WORKS, but my prediction was correct. It needs more power. All 3 coils are heating up enough to put off a tiny bit of fog. So, off to find a 9volt.

Basically all that's left is to make a mouthpiece and find a good power source...and take a couple pics.

I feel accomplished :D

either get some PVC piping cut to the length for the inside to use 2 CR2s or a songle 14500 or put some cardboard around the batts to use w/out the triple holder.....OR just use reg batts :)

Ive never made my own atty, but I have done a few of these mods....for some step by step try searching "madog magnum mod" he even has a step by step video that can get ya vaping in under 30 min!!! :) what a fun project, i never get tired of that feeling of vaping off something I made

@jlmanno: Nichrome coils are the tiny coils of wire inside most atomizers. It causes the heat that vaporizes your juice.

@crashtestjeep: You know the voltage on the batteries you mentioned? This is my first DIY PV and I haven't learned all the batteries we can use yet.
Yes! the CR2's are 3v each and the single 14500 is 3.7v

Congrats on gettin it going and, PICS!!!!:w00t::w00t::w00t: Id LOVE to see ur new creation!!!!!

Thanks for the info, I bought like a 10 pack of those little flashlights before xmas really cheap, will be interested to see your finished mod. Haven't tried anything on my own yet but seen them little lights and remember seeing some kind of mod being started on the forum but lost track of the thread. good luck and hope you get your mod completed!

Couple questions.

1. Are you making these coils?
Yes, 7 turns of 36ga nichome per coil

2. How are you wicking to the coils?
Silica rope

3. If you are dripping, did you seal to keep juice off the batteries and switch?
Not yet I've only done one drop to each atty for testing.

4. If you used 3 coils, are they parallel or series?
Parallel

Just waiting for some batteries now. If the flashlight tube were just a little bigger I could just drop a 9v in there with a battery connector. :|
