This is a rumor I have heard (so may not be accurate), but apparently Sony never intended for the VTC's to be sold to individuals, just companies to use in products, and they are discontinuing production on them. I bought the last one we had for sale at the B&M I work at (upping my count to 3), and the warehouse we order from doesn't have any in stock. Hopefully it turns out to be untrue, but then again, maybe some other company will pick up Sony's slack and make even better and safer batteries. I think the impending FDA crackdown may have something to do with this.

Your statement is true.

This is false.

Sony originally was making (or had contracted) to have their VTC5's made in Japan (before Fukujimi). They have since moved their production to the Philippines.
