Trying again - Introducing myself. 30 hours vaping, 30 hours cig free (almost :)

Okay, let's try this again... :)

I found this site earlier today and I'm very glad I did, I've found a lot of information so far and sure I'll find a lot more in weeks/months to come!

So.. I thought I would introduce myself and tell my story... Here goes...

I'll be 45 in March and I've smoked Marlboro Red's for 30 years; the past 10 years or so I've smoked Red 72's as they are cheaper. I've tried everything under the sun to quit smoking... hypnosis, acupuncture, the patch, gum, chantix, etc... nothing has helped. I've never gone 2 hours without having a cigarette! (unless sleeping) The past few weeks, the talk show I listen to in the morning has been talking about and pushing e-cigs. I've thought about them, but never looked into them. Well, Saturday night my girlfriend and I went out to a bar to listen to a friend of her's play. To make a long story short, we ended up talking about his e-cig for 30 minutes and by the time we were done, I was hooked. He went from 3 packs a day to his e-cig and hasn't touched one since he started vaping.

So Sunday afternoon I went down the shop he recommended and was lucky to talk to a girl who was very knowledgeable about e-cigs. I ended leaving with a mv X6 starter kit, 2 T3S tanks, 5 extra T3S heads and 3 bottles of juice; a 30ml of 16mg, a 30ml of 18mg and a 12ml of 16mg.

I was set on finding tobacco flavors as I wanted to do whatever I could to help ease the transition from cigs to e-cigs. I found two that I liked and bought a smaller bottle of menthol for a change every once in a while. I tried a lot of the other flavors, but didn't like any of them. When I smoke, I go outside and it takes about 15 heavy drags on a 72 and the cig is done. I smoke for the nic (and chems) intake and that was it... I never lounged around and smoked casually.

I walked out of the shop around 1pm yesterday and started vaping. I was expecting a lot of withdraw issues switching over, but they haven't been there. Mostly I get the urge to outside to smoke, but it's more of a habit of going outside. Then I'm like oh yea, I can vape, no need to go out :) I did have one cigarette this morning when I first woke up, but I think that was due to being tired, out of habit and forgetting I had the e-cig. The first hit on the cigarette, I remember my e-cig because the cig tasted like crap! I took a few more drags and put it out. That was my only cigarette in close to 31 hours now!

I switched over to e-cigs as a way to quit smoking analogs. Hopefully over the next couple of months I can drop the nic levels of my juice and quit completely. For me, the habits such as the hand to mouth I think are going to be harder to quit, than the nicotine. So depending on how it goes, I may vape for a while... But so far, I'm really impressed with e-cigs and how the past 31 hours have gone.

Again, it hasn't been that long, but I do notice a difference. It's nice that cigs take like garbage now and I'm surprised to notice it, but I can inhale more deeply than I have ever been to the past 20 years or so without coughing or having a pain in my chest. I can't wait to see what changes I notice a week from now :)

I'll be lurking around and update on my progress as time goes by.

Thanks all and good luck!

Who's a poster boy for the efficacy of vaping? ^^ THIS GUY ^^

We just need to get a PSA video of you to go viral on YouTube to combat all the rubbish being talked about us by Big Pharma and Tobacco.

Congrats and welcome :toast:

1:
There is a subforum for media and news concerning ecigs, so we're all interested in knowing what talk show that was that mentioned it repeatedly.

2:

Wow! Sounds like you got off to a good enough start where you'll probably stay away from the smoke.

3:
Alot of what else you said is a common experience here, so you're among people who've been there; keep it up, you are on the road; NOTE your tastebuds are going to start changing so don't spend too much money all at once on flavours you might not like in a few weeks.
And since you have a few tanks, you have the flexibility to keep a tank with high nicotine AND another tank with lower nicotine, and use whichever you feel like, whenever you feel like.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on quitting....:toast:

You sound well on your way to quitting smoking...don't be too fast trying to cut your vaping or nicotine. I had my times over my 40+ years of smoking, ungin the patches, gom, lozenges, etc, etc...every time I started cutting my nicotine (as the programs directed) I compensated for the lowering by starting to smoke again...

After 3 1/2 years vaping, I've dropped my level some, but still get enough to keep from picking up cigarettes again (no matter how bad they may taste). So long as I get my nic, can breath, smell, taste, no ill effects, I'm a happy camper....:2cool:

Thanks all :)

For me, not having a desire for an actual 30 plus hours is a huge step! So I'm very happy and definitely looking forward to seeing the changes over the next few weeks, months, etc...

As far as the talk show, it's just a local morning talk show here in the Raleigh area. The main host has been using them and talking about them the past 2 months or so and now they picked up a new local advertiser, so it's talked about even more. I'm not usually an advocate/fan of advertisers, but it's that advertising that brought me here, so I'm not complaining at all :)

Welcome, sounds like you are off to a wonderful start. I know what you mean about the "habits" that go along with smoking. You said you were used to going outside. So maybe it might help if you just grabbed your battery and went outside for a while, like you're used to doing.

The funniest thing I kept doing the first few days, was trying to tap the non-existent ash on my ego batt (metal) into the ashtrays that were still sitting around my house. Clank, clank. Made me feel pretty silly. But hey, I smoked for over 40 years, and like you, never went without cigarettes except when I was asleep. That's a lot of years of habitual motions to get out of my brain!

I wish continued success to you.
