yeah honestly since got my first woodvil, i've vaped on the aluminum 2.1's very minimally. maybe it's just me--but i feel like the milled RM2's squonk better. i may have to sell my aluminums at some point. they're really cool in their own right, which is why i feel bad about them just collecting dust.

At one time I had 6 Woodvil's (2 of each size), 2 original minis, 2 mini 2.0's and a VV Grand.

I also neglected my aluminums and felt that they'd be better loved by someone else. The mini Woodvil's were too small for me and because they were thinner than the 18490 Woodvils, button placement was awkward for me and not as comfortable as the 18490's.

Sold all my metals and the two Woodvil Mini's and happy with the four I have until the Mechanical Woodvil sale. :)

thanks Rob--so i'm told you're into vintage stuff too? post some pics!

i don't (and most likely never will) have a '59 les paul--but that ES-175 is a '59 and has the orig PAF pickups. a lot of the 175's have been raided over the years for their PAF's (mostly to counterfeit '59 LP's). luckily i'm a jazzmaster guy, which are considerably easier to collect than '50's les pauls. :)
I wont be getting a 59 les paul that is a rich mans toy
I would be more then happy with the ES-175 myself beautiful instrument . Its not the guitar its the man bending the strings :)

Here's a pic of my Vadis 201 (2 x EL34's and tube rectifier) I got it a year or 2 ago, it works but needs a lot of work (its been tampered with and needs a lot of TLC), and my trusty old 1984 Westone Spectrum III I bought new :) I found I don't have any pics of my Vadis Series III LB60, its a bit dusty with another practice amp sitting on top of it, not very photogenic at the moment, but scroll down a bit and here's a pic of same amp.

And finally, here's the only amp I built from scratch, its very simple with just a power switch and a volume control, moreso a guitar power amp to be used with outboard preamp/effects etc. Its about 40W IIRC.

I have a few other vintage amps needing work too, must get back into it one of these days, been saving them for retirement, but that doesn't seem to be coming very fast :)

Very cool Ian--thanks for posting. is the amp you built based on any particular circuit? obviously hiwatts are my favorite amps, but I do love me some non-master vol amps where you get that pure output tube breakup.

hiwatts are relatively clean on the preamp gain, so I kind of consider them more in the non-master vol category.

also, very cool to hear about those Oz amps from the '60's and '70's.

No the one I built is a pretty simple design but does the job, I got some ideas from the hifi guys, and the rest is standard. Yeah, most (or maybe all) of the Oz amps back then didn't have master volumes since they were barely invented back then. When Marshall came out with the master volume in the mid 70's these Oz amp builders slowly stopped building as the import duty laws changed and they couldn't compete with the large scale imports. So a very brief span of Oz amps overall, around 10 years or so. It looks like Hiwatt was one of the pioneers of the master volume control?

Hey I had a Mini 2.1 sitting around for quite a while after I got some Woodies, but its now back in rotation, so don't give up on your Mini's just yet. With the sub ohm kit its a real pocket rocket, its well worth keeping one loaded up and ready to go out the door at a moment's notice too.

Oh.....how I long for the good old days of Heathkit!!!
Built a couple of ham radio transceivers many years ago (the "Hot Water" series - HW12/22/32)....all tubes, of course!!
On cold winter nights....they could double as a hand/foot(!!) warmer!!!:D
But....just like the Reo.....they were made to LAST!
Had I not had to sell them off to settle my family's estate...they'd still be going strong, I'm sure!!
Built a DynaKit "hi-fi" amp, too.....IIRC, it used 12AT7's in the output (~25W)....
Happy (vaping) Trails!
