I have a Prodigy v2 w/501 atty. Been puffing away on it now for 28 hours and LOVIN IT! I have NO desire for a real cigarette and I smoked for 37 years, at least a pack a day. So, I'm dripping 3 drops onto the atty, I puff away until I get that first "burnt" taste and then I add 2 to 3 more drops. How long should the atty last, approximately?

cant speak to life expectancy while dripping. but other than 2 atty that were more or less duds, i've yet to have one flat out die. one was used nearly 6 months and is now
in semi retirement.

How much/often do you vape? The reason I ask is that I had the same question about the life expectancy of atties. I read one response in which someone said that they replace their atty nearly every day, which seems like it would get expensive. It's bad enough worrying about replacing cartriges and juice.

I think it is more about your luck than it is your attys. It ranges from hours to months for the same brand. I don't know if it has something to do with the factory quotas that day or the humidity level where people live or if they let the atty cool between vapes (this one sounds pretty logical as metal will expand and constrict when heated and cooled). Basically, there is no set time for an atty. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

Been using the 510 atomizer since April of last year.
Always @3.7v, with cartridges. Drip rarely.
No maintenance. IMHO that's just silly.

Prior to using snus, when vaping was all that kept me from smoking, I would average 3ml a day.

Over the 7 month period from April 09 through October 09 I've pitched 8 510 atomizers.

2 dead - user error

The other 6 just kinda petered out.
210 days/6 attys = An average of 5 weeks per atomizer.
Same time period, rough average of 105ml vaped per atomizer.

All atomizers have been Joye.
Purchased in bulk, $5 each
Cleaned a couple and got an extra couple of days, not worth the effort.

I think I got my monies worth.

this is gonna sound like a dumb question, but how do know when an atty has finally reached its end?

There are no dumb questions. That's what we are all here for. If we all knew everything on our own, we wouldn't need a forum (except to make friends with people who share our common interest, of course)

Sometimes they just taper off in vapor production. This doesn't necessarily mean they are dead. You could try to revive it by cleaning or soaking in crest pro mouthwash http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo.../35917-sattecs-atty-cleaning-test-thread.html. After you do this, you will sometimes have to prime it with a couple drops of liquid and puff on it like it's a cigar to get it going again.

When it's really dead, it will produce no vapor and you can put a manual battery on it, press the button and hold it up to your ear and you won't hear the sizzle anymore or it won't even warm up if all you have are automatic batteries. It will be like you put a dead battery on it.

very heavy use, verging on atty abuse. however i mostly use tobacco flavors.sweet flavors tend to clog them up faster, plus as batt voltage drops you're more likely to build up deposits on the coil from incomplete vaporization imo.
