So I made this new coil running at .18 ohms on my plume veil clone sitting on a panzer. Problem is my batteries are barely heating it up at all. I then tried to put it on my .3 ohm build and the same thing happened barely any smoke. I put my fully charged batteries back on the charger and they said they were half charged. Hmmm did I damage both batteries with such a low build or what?

Do you have an multimeter to check the batteries' voltage or a voltmeter or is your charger digital and shows the batteries' remaining voltage? It is important to know because if it is below 2.5 volts then you may not be able to salvage it. If it is higher than that then you may have damaged the long term longevity of charge cycles it can hold but it will most likely be able to be charged up and used once fully charged. Make sure that your build and mod are not shorting out anywhere in the connection (this is where a multimeter is very useful) because this could be the culprit for the rapid discharge of the battery.

If it all checks out then it will take a while for your battery to charge back to its full capacity and make sure you test the voltage on the battery after it finishes charging. It is important for you to monitor your battery while it is charging after being discharged so rapidly to make sure it does not get overheated and if it does then take it off the charger and dispose of it at a local battery disposal center (I believe Best Buy and Radio Shack or other electronic chains have them).

Just wondering... what makes you think it was a 0.18 ohm build? A $10.00 ohmmeter? Already answered w/ "pretty good ohm reader". So I'll assume it was a Fluke or other high-end device. ... OK, I won't really assume that.

Where did you get your VTC5 batteries?

Ok I'll have to get my hands on a multimeter. My firing button also gets hot when I'm holding it. I think I might have damaged both my batteries with shorts. Any suggestions as far as safe batteries for low builds like that. I head imr batteries are good. Is there an 18650 battery with short protection
You have the best battery.

What you are lacking is an understanding of ohms law.

Small differences in resistance change your battery amp draw greatly when you are that close to a dead short. Most meters are not accurate at that low of resistance. The difference between the amp draw of a .18 build and a .14 build is 7amps. Most cheap meters (under $100) cannot measure .04 ohm differences accurately.

When you build a coil you also need to factor in the resistance of the leads on your multimeter when measuring your coil. Touch the leads together and hold until you get a reading...subtract this from your measured result. In my case I need to subtract .2 ohms from what my meter reads...

If I did not know this and built what I thought was a .2 ohm coil then ______ ...well you fill in the blanks.

Not to mention what anumber1 said about meter accuracy.

Personally, with "off the rack" multimeters I'm not comfortable building anything less than .5 ohms but maybe that's just me.

Sub-ohm problems : solutions

Anything below the atomizer increases in temperature : stop using the device, place it in a safe non-flamable location away from people for 20 minutes.

Anything below the atomizer gets warm : complete the above and then recover your device and use it to beat yourself sharply about the head and shoulder area for an additional 20 minutes.

Anything below the atomizer gets hot : complete the first two steps and then sharply rap the device against your teeth for 20 minutes or until you lack teeth to rap against.

Anything below the atomizer ruptures : complete the first three steps if enough of the device remains to do so, then insert any remaining device bits into your rectum, expel the parts when you void the following day.

Alternatively, learn why a device including the battery that powers it might heat up and seek out preventative measures and maintenance tasks prior to attempting the above proven solutions. Your .... teeth head and shoulders will thank you.

No offense, but if you have to ask, you shouldn't be building that low.

Get new batteries and rebuild your coil over .4. Perhaps learn something new to build at safer resistances. Until you have the equipment and mental capacity to do this, don't. I used to build over 1.0ohms because I didn't know what I was doing. Now that I feel I have graduated and own all the equipment necessary for this, I vape around .2 ohms. But I also have health insurance which I feel I should use more often then I do. Btw, I have yet to see an ohm meter that is going to get you exact. At least not the cheaper ones. Always assume you could be +/- .05 ohms. Which means you need to overbuild and work to make quality coils without regard to how low you can go. I know some guys here are knocking you, and rightfully so. But you need to build to your abilities. If you need to sub ohm then invest the time and money into doing it right.

This is why good jobs start on the ground floor and work up or require expensive time consuming educations. You can't just shoot for the top with no prior knowledge or experience.

Hmm perhaps someone should build an blast resistant mod tube that would prtect your hands in the event of an exposion...

Perhaps people should learn how things work before attempting something

There is a line we use down here...

Sounds like some user error and not the batteries. I exclusively use Vtc5s. I have been vaping my current setup at .16 without my batteries ever getting luke warm. Sounds like you fudged up and had a short or you severely discharged your batteries. Either way you should research and learn a few things before hopping on the youtube cloud chasing bandwagon
