I've heard mention that ultrasonic cleaning of atomizers was possible. I looked it up a bit in wikipedia and it seems like it should work, but it may depend on the frequency. Apparently a 40khz sonic cleaner made for dentures can be had for as little as 10-20 bucks.
Has anyone tried one of these things? Does it work at all?

Haven't tried it myself but there are several posts on the idea with varying results. Do a 'search forum' (posts) using "ultrasonic" here:

All you can do is try, but I have dabbled a little with cleaning atties with water, alcohol, Crest Pro Health mouthwash, etc., and have never had tons of success. Last week I got a cheap ($20) ultrasonic cleaner, really for my glasses, and I must say that it seems to be the first time I've actually had any real success with cleaning atties. I must admit, though, that I've never really tried hard and never really cared that much. In the past, if they still didn't work well, I just tossed them into the spares pile. This could have just been a fluke atty, but I'm really impressed with the way it cleaned it.
