I take the tank / RDA apart as much as the manufacture allows (usually the base, glass, chimney, and drip-tip) and then leave it in with just water for a 5 minute cycle.

I did take the o-ring off of the base of my Nautilus Mini once, it was keeping a strong clove flavor, and while it cleaned it, it took quite a bit of work to remove it so I would not recommend it.

I just pull it apart as far as I would to do a regular rinse, then toss it in, O-rings and all.

I really only do this when the tanks are new, I usually just give them a warm water rinse during the rewicking process.

Any problems with black attys and their finish coming off?

I've always thrown the whole kit and caboodle in the UC after taking the tank apart as much as manufacturer
allows and have been doing it this way for a couple of years.
Never had an issue with o rings, grommets or coils.
As for painted surfaces, can't speak to that except it has taken the enamel paint off the numbers on
my Gillette razors.

I break mine down as much as possible, including removing the o-rings, 510 pin and deck. I usually only do that when the tank is new. I want to make sure nothing is missed, as much as I can at least. I have cleaned my black STm's in mine and it hasn't damaged the paint, but mine is simply a small jewelry cleaner, a more industrial cleaner may be different.
