At what stage are you? Have you bought a device yet?

My beginners' advice.

Avoid anything made in China
Have backups for your backups
Clearomizers are the simplest to use
Cartomizers seem to be the most popular thing right now but there's a bit more of a learning curve
Remember the following words: Kanger, ViVi, and eGo Twist

There's a lot more but I have to go to bed too soon to type it all out but hopefully this'll get you started.

I think trial and error is kind of part of the process. Get a kit that has easy to find compatible parts. i.e. ego style. Get something with a 1000+mah so your battery lasts all day. Try a few different cartomizers and clearomizers to see what you like best. Cruise the forums for juice vendor recommendations and watch for coupons and sales. Also make sure you have two batteries so you can always have a spare one charged. Good luck!

Which of those things you mentioned are not made in china?

I'm not trying to be rude, but you tell someone not to avoid things made in china, and then everything you recommend is just that...made in china. Isn't that very confusing to a beginner?

That being said those names you mentioned are very good suggestions!

I agree they are good recommendations, but I wonder where he thinks they are made

if your looking for "easy" in the beginning an ego-t or even a set of ego minis with cartomizers make it simple and it should fit an smaller case for ease of carrying.
So where did you find these? I did hear that there are some made in the U.S. or am I mistaken? Also, does anyone make their own juice or is that just not done - not trying to sound dumb, just don't know.

I am right there with you on not buying China made. Oh no, my red white & blue is showing!!!!
So I will research "clearomizers" as that is new to me (um, well, it is all new to me), thanks for the help!

Then your equipment will be extremely limited. Even if you buy an American made mod, the batteries and charger will be made in... I guess you might be able to find some Indonesian batteries if you looked hard enough.

As far as Chinese e-liquids, it comes down to personal choice. A lot of people really like certain flavors that happen to be made in China - and some vendors, the ones who don't specialize in juice, often sell Chinese liquids rebranded. Personally, the only problem I have with liquids made outside of the US is that you usually can't customize the pg/vg ratio.

Some people get into DYI juices, but there are many, many small US vendors who make custom e-liquids.
