Under 5 posts and want to rebuild an atomizer maybe

Hey guys, been using the forum for information for a while, but never really made a real post. Gotta get above 5 somehow right? Let me explain my situation.

I bought a blue starter kit and am using 510 atty's at the time being. I have also have a homemade passthru using a hobby box and switches from Radio Shack. It runs between 5-7v depending on my source. I have tried less than 5 regular 510 atty's, and 1 LR atty.

Firstly, I would like suggestions for the atty to use in my passthru.

Also, I have some median skills in electronics and horrible soldering of course I have the LR atty and 2 regular ones that I was considering rebuilding. One of the regular atty's is measuring 8 ohms, and the other two including the LR are opens. Is this worth trying to save money on? or is it a really big hassle without nice tools?

Man I looked over that thread and it made my head hurt just thinking about it! I guess if you have more time than money, and the patience of a Saint then by all means..........but I`ve got better things to do.

8ohms sounds very high for a 510 atty.

OK so after reading it three times, I got one fully disassembled. Now lets just see if I can follow this core thread.


Any suggestions for the 510 atty running 5-7v's? Is a LR atty dangerous in any way using HV?

Sorry, no help here... but if you can tell me how to fully disassembled them I will be able to start playing... I can't even go to step 1 because I simply can't open them!

Follow that step by step. You need to boil them for 15-20 mins then stick an 11/32" drill bit down in there and wiggle the metal sleeve off. Once the glue gives you'll start to give, you'll see a gap form. Make sure to use the non-drilling end and keep it slid down into the sleeve. The wiggling makes it come out a slightly.

Well looks like I need some special wire for the coils. Wasn't aware of that. Got some on the way. I'll post back after it gets here.

A LR atty will fry the juice and burn out at high voltage. You need a high resistance atty for anything over 5V. I use a 5.2 ohm 901 atty at 6V most of the time. When I have one of my 510 mods running at 6V I use a HV 510 atty and I believe the ohm rating on that is 3.5.

Would you let me know how this goes? I'm familiar with the basic theories of electronic physics, and can solder, but I don't have much practice with more than basic circuits and am new to PVs.

If you know how to solder, then this isn't very hard. Just hope you're fine with working with very small parts. I need a few of those alligator clip things that hold stuff for you.

I'm waiting for the wire to come in, but I found one of my atty's had a good coil still so I am rebuilding it for some practice. So far it seems very easy, just tedious.

Ok let me clarify. Easy to understand, hard to do. Maybe it will be easier once I get new materials. The old coil didn't wanna tin for .....

I'm in no means an ecig genius though. My soldering skills are probably mediocre at best but I'm thinking I'll be able to handle it.

So, my wire got here today. Amazing how small 10 ft look on a spool lol. After calling lowe's and wal-mart and trying to get the idiots to understand what kind of rope I was looking for, I went ahead and ordered rope from this thread as well.

I didn't order my wire from his link because I'm not a paypal user, but it was relatively easy to find the same 36 ga. wire on google that accepted credit cards.


I'm going to radio shack to pick up some wire on my way to work. Speaking of which, I better get going.
