Read this blog post by Baditude (our resident battery/safety expert).

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
- choose the safest and right battery for your applications here. Includes a list of name brand, high-drain, safe-chemistry batteries with mAh & amp ratings in 18350, 18490/18500, and 18650 sizes.

If you want safe batteries with a 30A limitation I'd recommend the Sony 18650VTC5 2600mAh 30A

Only buy batteries from a reputable dealer (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are a few reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics
* RTD Vapor

Make sure you have an ohm meter, a decent charger and know all about ohm's law BEFORE you start building. If you need any information on any of this please post back so someone can point you in the right direction to get this information.

The efest purple 2100 30amps are just fine. They are rewrapped Sony VTC4s
The efest purple 2600 35 amp are rewrapped LG18650HE2s which are a 20amp continuous 35amp MAX Pulse.
**Steer away from the efest purple 3100 20amp batteries. As far as anyone knows for now they are really only like 6amp batteries.

EDIT: says they're rebranded VCT 4 so I'm assuming these are a go?

I've got about 8 of those. They're great.

Honestly, I'm less leery of buying the 30amp Purple Efests then I am buying VTC5's which apparently are routinely counterfeited. Should you look for the VTC5 (an awesome battery, btw) make sure it comes from a reputable vendor.
