I got my riva about 6 weeks ago. There were several faulty components that were doa or failed within 24hrs. They were replaced and have had no probs since with the exception of the atty's whcih would fail within a week or so and most generally had a bad taste and didn't seem to wick well.
I decided to try a 901 atty on them so ordered a 510 batt to 901 atty adapter. A few hours of usage later and the vapor production dwindled. I switched back a 510 atty and same low vapor production. When one of the batts needed charging it wouldn't turn the light red. I also noticed that the batt light would come on when i depressed the button even though it wasn't hooked to a charger.
The other batt started activating the atty without the button being pressed and without the batt light coming on. I quickly inscrewed it. After careful examination with a magnifying glass of both batts i could not see anything inside the threaded contact area that might cause a short. I always wipe dry both the batt and charger or atty every time i charge a batt or hook it to an atty. I'm actually pretty obsessive about that. I did however forget to wipe down the new 510-901 adapter prior to use but didn't see anything on it afterwards.
I have a new ego clone on the way but before i try it out i want to try and prevent blowing those batts out too... not rich. Keeping in mind that the batts didn't completely fail til after they worked on the 510 atty what would be the most likely cause? I'm also unsure if it's just a bad batch because the items seemed to be poor quality due to my initial experience with them although both going out on the same day after 6 weeks of use seems to be too coiincidental.
The 510-901 adapter, the 901 atty or the 510 atty? Also, what would cause this from any of the suspects? As stated i didn't see anything that could cause a short like metal shavings or anything for that matter. I'll have to read up on how to test these things to help prevent future problems. Just seems a like a lot of work to have to test everything several times a day to try and catch an atty that suddenly wants to short your batts (if that's even the problem).
Edit: Ps- I remember that the atty flooded with the adapter on and i took it aprt to wipe it all down. Was thinking that maybe that could've caused the short. Whatcha think?
