Hi everyone!

I posted last week asking for some input to select an e-cig for my Mom and myself. Here's the thread-
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...rst-e-cig-selection-smoketip-maxx-fusion.html

Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone so much and give a little update-

My Mom- She's 77 years old, smoked 2 pks a day for 60+ years and has COPD. Tried everthing to quit- pills, hypnosis, acupuncture, etc. etc. For ease and convenience, she got the Smoke Tip and a ton of pre-filled cartridges from V4L. Since receiving her starter kit Tue-Wed she has smoked a total of 2 cigarettes. Amazing!! Just loves the thing. I can't be more thrilled for her. I can see some of the drawbacks but for her, it works. She just pops on a cart and she's good to go. She also likes the way it looks.

Me - I got the Joye Ego starter kit yesterday, 2 boxes of Boge cartomizers, a couple drip tips and a pass through battery. Um, now what?? Not a lot of instructions at all. I charged batteries. I "think" I filled a few cartomizers. Now sure if I did that right.

I tried one of the pre-filled cartridges. Almost threw up. I smoke menthol and this is non-menthol I guess but it was terrible. And it smelled funky. Maybe I didn't put it on correctly? After I tried it a few times, I tried to remove the cartridge and the inside of the cartridge pulled away and seemed stuck to the atomizer. Is that supposed to happen?

I'm not exactly sure how to fill or how to use the drip tip. I tried searching last night and I'm sure it's here somewhere but could someone point me in the direction on filling tips?

Is there a reason why someone would want to use a cart and atomizer as opposed to using a carto?

Thanks for all of your help!

Mmm, sounds like you may not have cleaned out the primer from the atty before you used it, hence the bad taste. Remove the atty and blow it out through the threaded end, then put in the drip tip and about 3 to 4 drops of liquid and take a puff without inhaling into your lungs, just blow it out. Do this a few times until you taste the vapour from the eliquid. Then re insert the cart or just keep dripping, either way you should be good to go.

It sounds like you didn't blow out the primer fluid from your new atty. Just take it off the battery and remove the cart then blow through it until you get all the liquid out. Use a napking or tissue to catch the fluid. Put it all back together and take about 5 hits without inhaling. Once that's done inhale carefully in case it's still nasty, if it is take a few more hits without inhaling and try again. To use a drip tip just put it on the atty in place of the cart. Drip 3 drops into it and you're good for around 10 to 15 hits. Quite frankly I find cart's are more of a PItA than they're worth. I drip mostly but use carto's when it's not convenient.

One thing to keep in mind is you don't want to hit it the way you used to smoke. In other words - don't take fast hard drags on it. The trick to using a pv (any pv) is slooooooow, long, easy drags. It takes a little getting used to, but you'll have it down in no time!

As for filling/refilling cartos - with my Boge cartos (actually ALL my cartos) I just drip the juice right into the bottom hole (threaded end). When filling a brand new "blank" carto, I get about 20-25 drops in - refilling I get about 10-12 depending on how dry I let it get. I fill it until it looks real wet at the top (mouth end) and then give it a gentle blow through to clear the tubing down the center. Then screw it on and start vaping. Just remember that a carto is like an atty - you need to keep it wet. If it gets too dry, the flavor will suck, the vapor will go to almost nothing, and that sucker will get HOT.

Thank you so much!

I can't very well smoke while I bug my mother to quit. Lets face it, the older you get the harder it is to adapt to something new. I'm just so happy for her. Me too! :D

I have a very strong feeling she'll be getting an eGo soon. She tried mine and said she gets more of a "throat hit". Cracked me up. But she wants to keep her Smoke Tip for when she's with her senior friends. She said the ego looks a little bit like a mini- curling iron.

Both the VL4 808 and the Ego were excellent choices. I had the same experience with dripping from an atty as you the first time I used one. Eventually I figured out that you have to get rid of that primer and now use I one to try out new flavors. I don't use a drip tip and just put two or three drops directly into the atomizer.
The reason people use cartomizers is because they hold more liquid and that makes them more convenient. However they were meant for one time use and aren't as reliable as cartridges. They are getting better.

Your prefilled most likly had a foil cover to keep the juice in. When using them, put the carto on, turn it a little to break the foil. then pull the carto off and remove the rest of the foil off the carto. When using a carto, you may want to make sure the top fluff of the fill is just a hair above the edge of the cart, you want the bridge of the atty to push the filler back in the carto. Same hold true for carts also.

OK, now I'm really confused. I thought when I used the carto I didn't use the atty?

I had some prefilled carts that came with my kit. I didn't see foil though. I attatched it to the atty. I didn't clean it out so I guess that's why it was so terrible. But it was super hot after a few hits and when I pulled the cart off the poly-fill or whatever it is from the cart was sticking to the atty.

There are only three ways to use it: cart + atty, cartomizer, or atty + drip tip.

It sounds like you had the atty on for too long and it burned the cart, or the cart wasn't aligned with the bridge on the atty. To avoid this, make sure you align the slit in the bottom of the cart with the bridge, and take a break in between hits to give the atty a chance to cool down a bit.

You can also pull the poly fill out and trim off the burnt part. You don't really need all that poly in there.

ETA: if you bought a juice sample, you can prime the atty by taking the cart off and putting a drop or two directly on the atty, then put the cart on.

Best bet is to just ditch the carts and try using those cartos. You can also drip (but it involves an extra step of removing the cart without a drip tip) directly on the atty by putting a few drops of juice on the atty then put the cart back on. Once you get a drip tip, you can ditch the carts. Use the cartos for going out or driving.

I also say definitely use cartos. I had NIGHTMARES using carts with my eGo when I first started out. The filler would stick to the atty, the filler wouldn't wick liquid, I kept getting burning atty taste, etc.
I now use LR Boge cartos from Vapor Kings FIVE (5) Joye 510 compatible e-Cigarette blank cartomizers (Manufactured by Boge)

The soft white cap is easily removed, then you drip in your liquid and re-cap. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!

A carto or cartomizer is an Atty or atomizer combined into one piece.
Atomizers are used with cartridges or it can be used by itself for dripping. You can also put a drip tip on an atomizer instead of a catridge.

There are two reasons attys get hot.
Running low or out of juice.
Also LR or low ohm attys tend to run hot.
If I use a 2.0 ohm atty on a KR 808 battery it gets too hot for my lips.
To me it sounds like you are trying to vape a dry atty.
Take you atty remove the drip tip and put about four drops of liquid into it.
Four drops at a time may be to much but you want to make sure the liquid gets to the coil the first time.
If you get taste and smoke it's not problem with the the atty.
Next take you cartridge make sure the filler is saturated with liquid and try it with the atty.
If you still get a dry taste pull the filler out some more or add more liquid or both..
