The hard cap cartos are almost as easy because you can just drip into the hole into the battery end. It's just harder to tell when it's full. I've never messed with the syringe method because I don't think there's any need to.

In my case, I can see where the syringe would be handy. It looks like I've got the hard-cap type and the hole on the bottom is smaller than the hole on the top (the inhale side). From what I've seen in the videos, the fluid is pretty thick and it looks the surface tension on it would prevent it getting into the little hole.

I want to thank everyone who offered advice in this thread, and fill you in on my decision for those of you who want some thread-closure. :)

Based on your replies and some more research, I came to the realization that the 510 model is pretty much the go-to device for entry level vapers. It has the most accessories (especially with the adapters that make other models' accessories work with it) as well as a long track record for reliability. It’s been around long enough that there won't be a problem finding parts and accessories from multiple vendors which allows me to shop around for the best prices without having to worry about compatibility.

I ended up ordering the Joye 510 no-box starter kit from Cignot (very good reviews in the forums for Cignot), along with 20ml of Desert Ship juice (I'm a Camel smoker) and a 5 pack of 510 cartomizers for right at $60 shipped (actually $57 but I also sprung for the $3 priority shipping).

I feel that this gives me all of the great benefits of the 510 (you know what those are, no need to list them) along with the convenience I was looking for with the cartomizers.

Again, thanks to everyone who offered advice, you helped a great deal in narrowing down the overwhelming number of options and information available to new vapers.

You made a good choice going with the 510. Keep in mind that most people vape around 2-3ml per day so 20ml should keep you going for a week or so. I like Desert Ship ok, but it doesn't taste like a Camel to me. You're going to need to order more juice pretty quickly so you don't run out. I'd just wait a day or two after your order arrives to see if you like the juice you got. If you do, order more and try a few others if you can at the same time.
Your welcome for the advice, but that's what this community is for. You'll probably have more questions after you get your new PV. Just ask. Keep in mind there is a learning curve and you may get frustrated until you've got it down. Don't give up, after you figure out how to make it work for you, you'll be really happy with it. Happy vaping and keep us posted.

I thought the same thing, and I wanted a 30ml bottle, but from what I could see, Cignot doesn't offer them. Also, I promised my wife I wouldn't spend more than $60 this week. ;)

The thought of other flavors just doesn't really sit right with me at this point. After 20 years it just seems weird to "smoke" anything but tobacco (or menthol). I might try a little menthol but I've never really been into it much. Maybe after I've been at it for a while I'll be a little more adventurous.

If you do like Desert Ship you can get 30ml bottles from Electronic Cigarette Supplies & Electronic Cigarette Refills for Name-Brand Electronic Cigarettes! E-Cigs from LiteCigUSA for $10.95. I've been ordering both equipment and supplies from them and highly recommend them. They also offer free shipping on orders over $15 so it's hard to beat. I only wanted tobacco flavors at first too, most of us are that way. I think it's kind of like a transitionary period between smoking and vaping. If you want something that's halfway between tabaccy and something more adventurous try the Dekang RY4. It's a carmelly flavored robust tobacco and it's great, especially for the price. I've tried menthol and don't care for it personally, it's too strong and hangs around in my atty way too long.
