Is there anybody who is a pilot and has access to a plane?

I talked to dad this evening and the news on mom is not good!!! Her bone cancer is back, it is widespread, and it is aggressive. To top all of that off, she is not eating. When dad asked the doctors for a prognosis, they point blank told him that if she took a turn for the worse, no heroic measures would be taken (I am thinking she is well into end stage). They are admitting her to the hospital there in Huston, dad dang near fell apart on me on the phone....and dad just does not do that. I have school tomorrow and then off for a week and desperately need to find a way to get to Huston tomorrow after school. Thus the reason for the opening question.

My brother is getting ready to ship out to Iraq........AGAIN (3 tour) and when I told him all of this, he panicked.

Thanks,

Anne

It sounds like you are panicked, my friend. Take a deep breath. Your post is a bit confusing, you aren't really clear about where you are and where you need to get to. I'm assuming that you are looking to get to mom's location quickly and for free. Finding a benevolent pilot with a private plane to fly you to your mom isn't very likely.

Since you asked for help, I thought I would offer some options and my support to you. I am a nurse that takes care of terminally ill patients.

If you mean you need to get to Houston, you can drive it pretty quick. You could rent a car or hop a greyhound. Another option is to get the hospital's social worker where your mom is admitted to try to help you get on a flight in. He/She will have access to resources like charity groups and programs that most people don't know about. You can get some documentation (a letter from a doctor) about your mom's condition and contact airlines directly as well. A flight from Wichita to Houston is around 200 bucks, I bet you could probably pull that together if you really needed to. Got a laptop? An Iphone? An Xbox? try a pawn shop maybe? If you are a member of a Church, you can ask them for help, too.

The doctor can't dictate your mom's code status or determine that no heroic measures be taken without consent from your mom. (Or your dad if your mom can't speak/sign for herself) If she truly is end stage and they try to bring her back, it's not pretty, if they fail or succeed, it's brutal and will likely only gain mom a few more hours or days of pain if they manage to bring her back. I know it's horrible and unfair and I'm very sorry that this is happening to you and your family.

If you want to talk more or have any questions, please email me if you want.
