First off, BIG thanks to Hoog for my 2nd order and the super FAST shipping you do! Love the Blk Raz sample!

Can anyone with the USB charger for the 016 tell me if the light is supposed to be red while charging?

I just ordered (1) 016 battery, conemizer and USB charger. When I received it earlier today, the batt was doing the quick blue flash thing.

So I'm using the USB charger (on a fairly new dell desktop) but the light on the charger itself is always green - never red to indicate charging?

Still I let it sit that way for an hour, but the moment I attach any atty, the 016 flashes all the blue things to indicate dead, so I don't seem to be getting a charge?

Am I doing something wrong? The 016 won't fit into my other 510 AC or USB charger, so I can't test it that way. And I read not to put a 510 batt into this USB quick charger, so can't test the charger itself that way.

Any suggestions? Thanks!!

I was going to ask a similar question. Twice now when I plugged my 016 batt into the USB port on my desktop, the USB charger light stayed green (the 016batt itself flashed blue a few times). Yesterday when I charged (?) the 016 batt on my desktop, the USB charger stayed green for over 3 hours, THEN it turned red, then green again after about 5 total hours (I didn't touch it, did this by itself). So, it's really hard to know if the USB charger is charging or not. I left it connected on faith and I'm using the 016 today, again on faith, since I don't have a voltmeter. Maybe these should come supplied with one. Would appreciate any suggestions also.

The last time I charged it with the wall charger, I was able to get the USB to show red after screwing it on and off 3 or 4 times.

I wonder if it's only because the threads were brand new?

As for the charger light, it does turn red when charging, then green when it's done. Make sure there is no liquid on the battery centerpost and threads too. Other than that I don't know.

Thanks for that info! I didn't buy the AC wall charger since I had read the long thread about the problems with that one. I can't get the USB one to show red, only green so far, but the batt is dead. Will keep trying I guess.

btw, Klynn - this is sooooo bizarre . I use the name KLynn on most of my forum or ID names, and when I tried it here, well, it was taken! Nice to see another Klynn out there :)

Maybe ... b/c the threads were (almost) brand new - that wasn't the first charge tho.

My prob is that, i.e., the last 2 times I charged it (USB charger to puter), I couldn't get it to turn red no matter how many times I screwed/unscrewed it. So, I left it. It turned red after about 3 hours, then green after about 4 1/2 - 5 hours. It should have been red when I put it on the charger; I had been using it 13 hours. Same thing the USB charge before - showed reen quite awhile then finally red (which makes me more confident it's charging). Hmmm

Hi Tuscany Rose - I like that name too. I was surprised when I was able to register w/klynn --- I use it a lot too, but it's usually taken...

When you unplug it and re-plug it, leave it unplugged for 15 seconds.

Make sure the USB port still works, then I would leave it plugged for hours anyway, as Klynn said, but I would keep an eye on it if I tried it on my desktop. Also, my charger says OUTPUT 420mA, by the way.

I'm not saying any of this would solve the problem, but I'm just trying to think everything I would do as the thread conitunues.

Well, it's 2am and nothing at all worked.

I've tried unplugging and all that jazz, I left it on the USB port for many hours hoping it would finally turn red to charge, I switched it to the back USB ports (and unloaded all other USB devices for max power), and lastly I hauled out an AC USB hub with the correct amp ratings, and it's still a no go.

That charger had a green light from the moment I plugged it in and has never shown anything else. The 016 batt still flashes 9x blue.

Bummed :( Luckily I ordered the 5V PT and that's been working like a charm all day :D

I had a regular 801 that behaved similarly. What worked for me. Press the battery button to try to fire the battery. Wait until the LED stops flashing to indicate it needs a charge. Then screw it into the already plugged in charger. I unplug the charger for a minute then plug it back in before I try the battery button. Sometimes still takes me 2 or 3 tries but eventually I get the LED flash on the battery to indicate its seeing a charge starting the the LED on the charger turns red. A charge then happens and my battery behaves fine until I need to recharge it, then its the same silly sequence to get the charge to take. But its been working fine that way for a few weeks now so I never bothered to do anything about it.

4am UPDATE (yeah, I'm still up....)

I must have gotten a small charge into the 016 batt, as I am now able to use it somewhat.

Can't put a LR atty on it (flashes 9x blue), but a regular 510 carto is working, so it must not have a strong enough charge for the LR? dunno, I'm not too bright about that elec stuff!

Glad it's not the batt, must be something with this charger. It never did turn red to indicate charging - I just decided to give it one more try before I really hit the sack.

Thanks for the input everyone. Will follow up later tomorrow.

oh man, I love how I can just put this batt down on the desk standing up - nice :)

The USB post could be fuse protected, and shut off automatically if it needs to, at least on not very old computers. I think if the charger acts like it will not charge, I would just as a general precaution do it while I'm near it and able to keep an eye on it in case something happens or the charger indicates that it's working. The other thing I was wondering is if maybe the charger really is charging the battery, but the battery was just way tooo depleted. If it seemed to have taken a little charge, I wonder if it really does work, but for some reason the indicator just does not show it immediately. That's why I wonder how long it was hooked up to the charger, that time when you said it may have taken a slight charge.
