Most of the IT people on this forum recommend against it. I just plug mine into an outlet next to my lap top as a caution.

I think there has been a few cases where someone lost a motherboard. The idea is that it is better to use a $5 wall plug than risk a $xxxx computer.

I personally plug the adaptor into the wall via iPhone power adaptor. It definitely charges quicker when doing it from the mains, and could allow the battery to have more power.
