I've got a quick question and hope someone has a real answer. I've read that plugging into a USB port on your computer (or a powered USB hub) works just fine, however I also have read that plugging into a non-powered USB hub (i.e. a USB port on your keyboard) would not work well. Even though a USB port on a keyboard may not be powered directly, it still should provide the same charge, but just take a bit longer, or so I would assume. But this seems to not be the case from what I've been reading. So, my question...

Should I only use a powered USB port (i.e. computer or powered hub), or can I use the port on my keyboard? Or should I just say 'screw it' and just use a wall charger?

I am sure this has been asked many times before, but for some reason when I try to use the search feature it just brings up a bunch of generic forum links, and no real posts.

Uh, depends on the keyboard. I have a Logitech G15 and my USB ports work fine. It depends on the voltage required really... If its, say, an RN4081 it will work. Now if you've googled an image of my keyboard that may explain WHY mine works when others don't...its a .......n monstrosity and eats power from my PSU for all the stuff it has going on (but its no G19). I'm drawing a LOT more power from the USB Host than, say, a mac (lolmacs) USB keyboard will. That's probably not even drawing from Host at ALL, and its just doing a low volt, low amperage run and with closing of the circuits with the keys relays data.

I use a powered hub 99% of the time with out issue, but I've also used the usb ports on my monitor and my mobo with out any problems too. Older computer might not put out enough power, possibly the same with a cheaper store bought too. My Asus mobo handles it just fine though. My laptop might give me problems my larger external HD's require the use of 2 usb ports to work on it, 1 plug powers them on my desktop though.
