Has anyone tried an external battery pack for those days that you are going to be away too long to recharge your batteries and using the USB passthrough?

Something like this:
APC USB Battery Extender External battery pack

I am new to vaping and now keep reading about how it won't be long before I need new batteries. As a matter of fact, I have 3 batteries and 2 of them don't seem normal even from the beginning. I purchased a passthrough and use it while I am at my computer. I found that it will also work in my vehicle with an adapter that is used for charging my iPhone. So, this lead me to think about also using an external battery pack.

Hi Linda. Many on the forum use that very pack. I made my own and used it briefly before I took it apart because I detested the passthrough. It worked wonderfully. I could vape for about a day and a half before recharging. You have to use NiMH batteries though. The NiCd and the alkaline will not last long for our devices, and the lithium batteries put out too much voltage to put that many in one prewired battery pack without killing the atomizer. The NiMH rechargeable batteries are the ones you can buy pretty much anywhere - Walmart, Target, drugstores. They are the most popular type of rechargeable battery these days.

I've been using home made battery supplies, since I only use the passthru at home or in hidden view, like the hotel! lol . But, this has me really intrigued enough to purchase and try this one out. Price is too good to be true, but hey....I'm willing to be a sucker once in a while.

Nicowolf did mention not to use lithium batteries.

Linda
Isn't that what most people use in their mods, portable battery supply and manufactured e-cig, Li-ion?

edit-Just re-read her post.

She just meant that for the power supply she made.

Lithium-ion batteries pack much more power...basically most 2 standard AA batteries equivalent to 1Li-ion battery of the same size or less. So, if the enclosure asks for 4 AA and you use 4 Li-ion batteries, you've essentionally added the roughly 10 AA batteries....atomizer R.I.P

I use a homemade battery, that is solar charged for all my USB devices when I am on the go.. I took a 12v 7amp SLA Batt, with a automotive cigarette receptacle. I plug a USB adapter into that and I can power my IPOD Touch, and charge the cell for days, without using the solar charger... The whole thing cost me 23$ plus 12$ for the solar panel (harbor freight). I thought i would throw that out there...

I got a Socket 7200mah battery pack and I notice that not only do I get a perfect draw every time, but the taste is better and my carts are lasting longer. I think my laptop was getting the atomizer too hot, thereby diminishing the taste and drying out the carts too quickly. I wondered how folks were getting so much mileage out of their liquid when mine was going so fast. I'd take maybe 5 or 6 hits and then it would start tasting like metal and I'd have to top off. I bought it used for $39.00 off E-Bay. New ones go for over $100.00. Even at the higher price, I'd recoup that on juice alone, not to mention the atomizers I would have probably burned out eventually.

I was just searching for a good deal on a USB battery pack. Did you get this yet and is it any good?

How did this one work for you?

Thanks,

I purchased 3 of these battery packs since they were so cheap.

APC USB Battery Extender External battery pack

I then purchased NiMH batteries and fully charged them. It will not vape for me.

So, what other battery packs do other people use along with the USB passthru?

I have a Screwdriver and my 901s are backups. I need a backup now because I accidentally :-( dropped my SD and it is going in for repairs.

Thank you,
Linda

10,000maH and powers device for 100 hours. Doesn't that mean 100ma output? One tenth of an amp?

The packaging claims that it's 0.8amps output, so if the 10,000 mAh "capacity" is correct, which I don't think so. The atty I believe, requires about 1 amp to have the best performance. But, because this device has a cap of 0.8amps or mA output. If I could, I should be able to burn an ecig for almost 13 hours non stop before it dies, I could be wrong in the assumption.
All that I do know is that I purchased it, and not really impressed. It takes 4-5 friggin hours to fully charge for starters. Then it lasts less than equivalent to the 2000mah rated at 5.5v/0.8amp battery pack that I recently modified and attached a RN4081 connector to it, which is about 8-12 hours of heavy usage.

I tested the voltage of each battery from the two battery packs. The battery in the recently modified one is 4.2 right out of the battery. Then amplified to 5.2v on it's way to the USB output. I'm assuming that it is a 3.7v battery in there.

The supposed 10,000 mah battery pack is 7.4v direct from the battery and stepped down to 5.4 v to the USB output.

I need to purchase a new voltage meter that displays mA.

Also, not sure how the circuitry works in either one of them, but the supposed 10,000mAh, will not accept a USB passthru with a tact switch. It has to be a switch that allows a higher rating, such as the momentary switch that is rated for 1amp.

The newly modified one, accepts either switch and seems to last longer, even though it's fully charged in 2 hours or a little more.

I don't really recommend the 10,000 mah battery pack. Maybe I have a dud, but the throat hits suck on it. Takes about 2 hits for the atty to really heat up, similar to using the original ecig battery. And even then, it's not satisfactory.

The newly modified one, I believe is putting out almost 1 full amp since it will heat the atty up fairly quickly. So, vaping with it should be adjusted. Long or longer drags for heavy and hard hits are definitely not needed or recommended.

edit: To be honest. The only thing that I now use it for is to charge the battery pack that has now been modified or my phone, psp, or anything else other than using it for any of my ecigs.
