USB Power

Had a question about USB's and the power they put out.

Can I use my passthru on the USB port on a PlatStation 3 and have it work the same as on my laptop? Or is there some sort of output difference that wuold not make that work? I'd rather ask than blow out an atty. Or a PS3....

The USB port on your laptop and PS3 both put out the same power: 5V @ 500 mA (that's half an Amp).

Here's what I said in another thread:

I've not had very much luck with the type of PT's that have an inline battery. They rely on a battery (that must be recharged) to provide the required amperage to operate the atomizer, that's why it works on a low-Amp device like a computer USB port or 0.5 Amp wall-adapter.

Here's my suggestion for a passthrough:

Get one without the inline battery, and a thick, heavy cord like this one, for example.

Power it with a wall to USB adapter that puts out 5V @ 2 Amps, like this one, for example.

If you have one with an inline battery and want to go with a higher-amp adapter to get actual 5 V vaping, you can easily remove the battery from most of them. It's just a matter of cutting the wire on each side of the battery-holder, twisting them together, and wrapping them with electrical tape.

Thanks. I was pretty sure it would be OK, but just wasn't 100% on the compatibility between real USB's and a pseudo USB like on a PS3.

I plugged mine into a PS2 last night. No issues at all.

I'd still get either a wall-to-USB adapter or a self-powered hub, that way a defective PT can't blow up something expensive.

I agree - get a wall USB plug. PS3 costs a a couple hundred bucks right? USB wall plug anything between $5 and $20. I know which one I'd rather replace.
(Madvapes have some USB wall plugs atm - I couldn't find any others but there probably a few on amazon or ebay type places)

Vaprlife has the 5v 2amp wall outlet for 10$

I have yet to see anyone selling PTs recommending using with anything but a powered usb hub or usb wall plug. I would be willing to bet many of you have old usb 1.xx powered hubs laying around doing nothing. These work great.
