Using a gift card

Am I able to use a visa gift card to make my purchase? Right now I'm getting

"credit card error: Your card cannot be charged at this time" and wondering if its from where I just got the card today or if you don't accept gift cards.

Edit: I think the card provider is having some kind of troubles right now....looks like I'll have to try again later

Thought it might be time to try a completely different flavor from the PB stuff but I'm so leary of wasting money
